Aaaaand just booked a flight for the week before Halloween. Can. Not. Wait. I'll see Wicked and Phantom. I don't care.
I'll also be in town for a few days in early July for work. Hoping to catch Shakespeare in the Park and maybe something Off-Broadway, if that exists.

Honey boo boo, me thinks you’re jumping the gun juuuust a lil bit... u might wanna see if your flight is refundable
...you literally- LITERALLY- just wrote "BROADWAY is back!!" above that post.
Next Tuesday is when we're supposed to get the official announcement of Broadway reopening and it's timeline.

It is indeed refundable!!

Yes... but one shouldn’t jump the gun and start booking flights! Duh! Wait until the league makes an announcement- wait until the shows actually open... use some common sense. That’s all

Just covering bases. I booked my flight for July the morning de Blasio gave his July 1 date. By that evening, my same flight was going for triple what I paid.

As a teacher, I'm hoping that at least some shows are able to open before September so I can take quick jaunt over. I've resigned myself to accept that I won't be there for opening night of the September shows since it would probably be on a Monday or Tuesday night. I'll definitely take a September weekend trip too, but I'd much rather do a late July/early August trip if possible.
Kad--wow! Two literallys! That is literally the first time I've seen that. Slightly off topic, but as an English teacher I'm fascinated by the popularity of the word literally, and its suggestion that figurative language isn't strong enough and we have to emphasize that we're speaking on literal terms, and now even that's not enough--we gotta say literally twice! I love it.
And Kadeivy, flights prices like that change all the time, especially if you're using the same browser and it knows your history. I doubt it had anything to do with the announcement.

There is a well-known saying "consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds." It misquotes Emerson, who said "A FOOLISH consistency is..."
I'll leave it to you to sort out the rest.
I’d love to know the discussions happening today with the bigwigs, trying to figure out how they can be the first and when the soonest they can get something up is.
Me too. I bet they’re saying, how can we come back and still charge $200.00 a ticket.

tbh I don't think there was much to surprise anyone in today's announcements. I suspect any discussions about those subjects are being had by the littlewigs. The bigwigs are holed up trying to figure out how to sell tickets for when they were planning to reopen. Now if Scott Rudin had any sort of wig at all [], he would no doubt be raging about both.

Best news I've heard in a long time! As Glinda sings,"Thank Goodness". The funny thing is, I had my radio turned to the Broadway station on Sirius this morning as I was driving to work, and this was the last song I heard when I drove into the parking lot. Premonition, perhaps? :)

You're right. I said it wrong. I was looking at these statistics https://covidactnow.org/us/metro/new-york-city-newark-jersey-city_ny-nj-pa/chart/5?s=1805723 and for the entire month of April it still considered NYC area to be "critical" and this past week just decreased the level to "high".
This is nice to hear. I’m not sure how much this announcement changes things on the great white way. Social distancing does not exist in a Broadway theatre. I’m still thinking fall winter and next spring for re-openings.
There are many a high profile Broadway actor currently in shows that closed scattered across the country. None of them have given an indication of an imminent plan to return. Some have gone so far as to say there are no details and they anticipate returning to NYC in the fall at the earliest.
I mean, the only thing this news today changes is that a reopening (whenever that will be) is official now and that changes peoples mentality around it.
And I doubt there will be any show returning that will have the exact same cast they had on 3/11/19, besides “Six”.

Yes the reopenings (and openings) will stretch from fall through spring, and yes there are many people currently out of pocket who have not been told to return. (One such person is my neighbor and they have been gone for the duration, eager to return, but not just to sit in their apartment and wait.) This repeats in lots of buildings and will evolve over the next year. Re social distancing, you are correct that it is not an aspect of Broadway reopening. As I said, the key is vaccinations, with testing essentially as a clumsy and expensive backup, and technology to make the requirement seamlessly verified. We will be there when we need to be there.
And yes, the other critical key is getting folks in the right mentality.

God, sure has felt like 2 years hasn’t it?!

3/11/20, and I even hope SIX does not have the exact same cast upon reopening. At the very least, Hicks needs to go, and Aragon should be recast.

Unless any owners of the theatres seriously took this time to revamp the ventilation and spacing of backstage and audience areas, it will not be safe to go back into them. Casts and crews should not feel safe going into those historically cramped backstages, and it will not be surprising if they refuse.
As for sitting 6ft apart in the audience, letting audiences in at limited capacity would mean a huge cut in ticket sales each performances. In order for each production to earn their nut each week, one would assume ticket prices will sky-rocket.
We’re coming out of a depression, and it’s hard to believe a lot of peoples’ first big purchase will be theatre tickets. Maybe for some that have the means, but not enough to keep the industry going. This is still all being too rushed, and if none of these practical things have been considered, Broadway is no where near ready. They’d basically be turning the whole theatre district into a super-spreader breeding ground.
