Anna Kendricks indeed has an awful lot of talent and style for her age, and I adored her "Ladies Who Lunch". I have to register a lot of disappointment with "Camp", though. Apart from the musical numbers and little jokes ("Don't you remember me? We were in "'night, Mother" together") it was really a crock. Here was a movie that had a real chance to show how homosexual music-theatre adolescents (who would have outnumbered straights at such a camp) relate to each other (romantically and otherwise) and we got the same old pathetic, lonely queen (seemingly the only one at the camp) shooting wistful looks at the cute straight boy. It was rather like the dreadful "Center Stage", set at a ballet school which we were asked to believe contained a single gay, African-American student who couldn't get a date.
I ask in all honesty/What would life be?/Without a song and a dance, what are we?/So I say "Thank you for the music/For giving it to me."
I must join in the chorus of those who didn't care for this film. I had some friends who saw it when it was released and raved. I finally rented it and as someone above mentioned, it reminded me of a Disney Channel original film. I sporadically enjoyed some of the musical numbers (esp. "Turkey Lurkey" and "I'm Still Here" but the acting was dreadful and the script unworthy of even the worst teen soap on the WB.
Well CAMP is basically a horrifying movie but I do admittedly like when Fritzy sings her special song. I like when the big fatty sings, too. It makes me emotional. I guess Vlad's lower abdominal muscles are a plus too. I pretty much need rub my vaginal area on Anna Kendrick.
It's eckspecially apropos
So if you really want to know
Do I love you?
Don't aks.
but really it was a waste of money. the idea that they had was good, who ever wrote the script should be put back into the 3rd grade....make that kindergarten. i have seen 3rd graders write better stuff
i am one of the few and the proud who loved this movie. yeah, the script was a bit off, but hey! it was an independent film! some of the acting wasn't so hot, either, but take it for what it is: a fun, musical film. i bought it (prev viewed at BB ) and have already seen it three times (all within 48 hours of each other. heh)
shlamdiddly- joanna lives down your street? that's AWESOME! do you know her personally? i've heard she's sweet.
daniel letterle doesn't strike me as the most talented one around. i thought it was odd that he was around 22 when they did the movie, making him a 17 year old. i was reading an interview, playbill.com, i think, and he was talking about his character, and he quoted someone else from the movie, word for word. i thought that was a bit cheap.
does anyone know what ever happened to all the kids from the movie? especially the talented ones? vince romeldi, joanna chilcoat, sasha allen, tiffany taylor... and yes. daniel letterle? any of them still around, doing anything else showcasing their talents?
CAMP- didnt like it at first- despite its surreal nature because I went to school with Anna- did shows together etc...so it was just creapy. She did deliver a solid performance though... amazing actually- she has some pipes.

I personally love CAMP. There was a thread about wheather or not CAMP should be a stage show or not. I can't remember what the majority of the vote was, but it would be challenging but oh so awsome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It's one of my favortie movies. Yes, you can point and laugh.
And you're right thejcm, I read somewhere that Idina did sing "The World was lost" part of "The Want of a Nail".
you say i'm weird! look at everyone you're sitting with! and hey, those guys over there just threw napkins up in the air like they were on something! it's contajous! you can't help it!
i originally hated camp...i saw it like the day it came out and walked out. but then i secrectly bought the dvd, and now i secretly love it. shhhhhhhhhhhhh...
it is so bad, but it is fun to watch.

I'm in the pink, Kissing a philosopher really Colors the way you think."~Bright Lights, Big City
yes- idina sang back-up on the "want of a nail" and "how shall i see through..."
Overall I thought the film was funny at times with its "inside" theatre humor, but other than that the film fails when it comes to delivering a feeling to the watcher.

"Because what is more like love than the ocean? You can play in it, drown in it. It can be clear and bright enough to hurt your eyes, or covered in fog; hidden behind a curve of road, and then suddenly there in full glory. Its waves come like breaths, in and out, in and out, body stretched to forever in its possibilities, and yet its heart lies deep, not fully knowable, inconceivably majestic."
I've just found this movie and I'll agree the plot is a but mucky at times, but overall I really like the movie. the song and the actors, in my opinion make up for the plot to make it enjoyable at least. Daniel Letterle being awesome in it might be helping too...
It was a good sort of story line i guess..but it seemed really dead at some points.
A dancer might dream to see her name in lights and mean it,
but all she really dreams is to make someone
else feel the way she did when she first saw a dancer.
And that is so beautiful-Anonymous
