As skeptical as I am about this, I will say: the Rodgers & Hammerstein organization is fiercely protective over the R&H catalogue, so I would venture to guess Underwood had to audition to get estate approval before they allowed her to be cast in this.
Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
I love Carrie, and if she can get ahold of her twang, she may be okay.
That vid that Robbie posted was kind of lovely, but girl needs to phrase that song better! She takes a breath after every word!
(I hope I didnt titillate anyone with the phrase "get ahold of her twang".)
"Carson has combined his passion for helping children with his love for one of Cincinnati's favorite past times - cornhole - to create a unique and exciting event perfect for a corporate outing, entertaining clients or family fun."
Can she PLEASE do 'Favorite Things' mashup with 'Before He Cheats?" pretty please -----
Shania Twain CDs and warm woolen mittens, Bleach blond and gumdrops N' shootin' some whiskey
Some bathroom Polo and bashing headlights These are a few of my favorite sights!
When the dog bites, When the tires slash, When i'm feeling sad I simply remember my louisville swing And then I don't feeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelllllllll sssooooooo baaaaaadddddddddddddddd.
(sung to the tune of 'Favorite Things' and a slight nasal twang, equipped with trills- and a giant fan to blow wind in your hair)
Guys - If we truly want this medium and the masterworks in it to survive, thrive and reach new, young audiences, we have to stop being so provincial in our thinking about interpretations or casting of them. Carrie is an amazing performer who knows damn well (as do the Producers and R&H) that the approach she takes with one of her number-one country/pop hits is not the approach to take with this project. She'll put the necessary work in. And if it means millions more become aware of music theatre, I say Amen!

That I doubt will happen. Having worked in country music for a little bit, I doubt Carries album lets her record for someone else. Same reason The Color Purple EP with Fantasia never happened, her record company put a "hell no" on it real quick.
