Posted: 8/23/05 at 5:34pmNot that disney would ever do it. But how about thinking "non-traditional". Anika Noni Rose.

Posted: 8/23/05 at 6:04pmKerry Butler is great but didn't sound too good on the demo
#80re: Casting for the Little Mermad
Posted: 8/23/05 at 6:26pmMegan McGinnis should play Ariel!
#81re: Casting for the Little Mermad
Posted: 8/23/05 at 7:40pmAnika Noni Rose - YES. I am all for that! (But I doubt white-bread Disney would even consider such a thing)
#82re: Casting for the Little Mermad
Posted: 8/23/05 at 7:48pmMegan McGinnis as Ariel and Jennifer Holliday as Ursula would be perfection.

The one at Seth's is on her website.

You'll need to scroll down a little. Also, please, if you have something bad to say, just don't.

Posted: 8/23/05 at 10:03pmI'm sorry, I need to, that was so bad.

Kerry Butler. Period. Rather Exclamation Point. (though I do admit the prospect of Celia would not be bad)
If Michael Bennet had seen her turn as a teenager in Opposite of Sex, he'd even have to admit how good she is. Check that, he'd even have to glow about her as much as anything to do with Light in the Piazza.

Posted: 8/24/05 at 1:14amI think Kerry's AMAZING on Seth's Chatterbox. She's freaking incredible and I REALLY REALLY hope she gets the role of Ariel. I hope that Disney pulls it off.

i think her voice is a little too...cartoonish, in the bad way.
in this recording at least...if she uses that voice during the whole show she'd be really annoying i think. to squeaky. but i know she's also faking the voice, cuase sometimes it doent show through. if she stopped then she'd prolly be amazing in the role.

Posted: 8/24/05 at 2:46amAnika Noni Rose would be brilliant as Ariel! Just the other day I was saying to myself "Where is that girl?" Is the PURLIE revival still in the works?

Posted: 8/24/05 at 11:29amKerry is somewhere in the 35-38 range. Anika is probably in her early or mid twenties

Posted: 8/24/05 at 1:25pmSomeone said that Disney was unlikely to use "non-traditional" casting for "Little Mermaid". Not to defend Disney, but since Lion King and Aida both used "non-traditional" casting, and since Belle has already been played by Asian and black actresses, I don't know what you're talking about.
#98re: Casting for the Little Mermad
Posted: 8/24/05 at 1:30pmActually, i believe that somewhere in the film, Ariel is referred to as 16.

"I mean nothing's wrong w/ Disney it's just there's a lot of it on Broadway..."
As of now, there is only Lion King and Beauty and the Beast...two shows seems like A LOT to me...
I think Megan McGinnis and Jess Grove are also great choices.
