Oh, I did forget about that one.  She does have an amazing voice.  I'm surprised there haven't been any photos of her current run as Velma.

"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)

I have a super random question, what happens if both the actor and the standby for Mary Sunshine aren't able to perform?  Mary Sunshine is a niche role that requires the actor to reach some pretty high notes that I don't think anybody in the male ensemble can reach.

the show's been running for 20 years and I don't think it's ever happened. Plus I'm sure there's other former Mary Sunshines in the NYC area that could jump into the role if need be.

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

Very recently, Ryan Lowe was returning from his annual vacation.  His original plans were to arrive on time to make it for the 8 p.m. show.  The plane was delayed somewhere along the way and didn't make the show.  I imagine his understudy performed that evening.  But if that standby/understudy  could not make that show, then someone like Chris Newcomer (who lives in the NYC area) could jump in at a moment's notice.  There are others I'm sure. He's a very talented Mary Sunshine.  I've seen him on tour.  Dylan Ratell filled in for Ryan Lowe for several days.

well, Jeff Loeffelholz has been the Mary Sunshine standby since the beginning(20 years). Outside of any scheduled vacations or other projects, I'd say he's very reliable.

On a side note has anybody seen Jeff Loeffelholz perform the role?  How was he?

I've seen the show dozens and dozens  of times, and so long as Ryan has been Mary Sunshine, I've never seen his understudy. Dude is amazingly consistent.

I've seen Chicago for over a dozen of time. I only saw Jeff Loeffelholz once. He was not as brilliant, hilarious and impressive and Ryan Lowe was, but he was quite reliable. You could easily tell he was a guy though.

I think in the playbill Loffelholz is listed as Jeff Loffelholz and his headshot is not in drag like R. Lowe's headshot is.

So the latest Telecharge update shows Bianca leaving Friday,  9/2:

Bianca Marroquin as Roxie (thru 9/2)
Lana Gordon as Velma Kelly (thru 9/4)
Tom Hewitt as Billy Flynn (thru 8/23)
Jason Danieley as Billy Flynn (8/25 - 9/18)
Raymond Bokhour as Amos Hart (thru 10/30)
Roz Ryan as Matron "Mama" Morton (thru 9/4)
R. Lowe as Mary Sunshine (thru 3/26)

Who is her understudy? I've seen Bianca countless times (gladly!) and would love to see an understudy if I go back on the 4th to see Lana.

Well, the Chicago Roxie understudies are:  Tonya Wathen, Chryssie Whitehead and Robyn Hurder.  The Velma u/s's are:  Donna Marie Asbury, Chryssie Whitehead and Kelcy Griffin.

FYI Donna is on medical leave. Amra is doing "Follies" which ends in October. She's Solange.

I've seen Jeff as Mary countless times. He's great in the role.

So, does it mean that after 9/2, understudies will perform the role of Roxie? Or will there be a replacement?

I didn't know Robyn Hurder was in the show now. With her experience and reliability, I'm surprised she hasn't been cast before.

Poor Donna! Wish her a very speedy recovery!
Best wishes to Ms Wright regarding her new role as well.

maybe Carly Hughes is coming back as Velma? They won't have u/s rotate the role for 4-8 weeks. They'll bring in someone, it just hasn't been announced yet.

Robyn appears quite often in Michael Scirrotto's Instagram. He's always posting from backstage.

Was also surprised to see her in the ensemble when I last visited the show this past spring. She's fantastic. Surprised she isn't in bigger things these days.

My guesses for upcoming replacements:  For Velma---Carly Hughes or Terra C ; For Roxie:  Dylis Croman or Amy Spanger.

Robyn mentioned recently on Instagram that she was in her final days at the show. Guess she's moving on.

I paid a return visit to Chicago last night. I will preface my post my saying that I LOVE Chicago. I have seen the tour many times, and each time it has been great - stark, sleek, sexy, and sizzling. However, I have seen the show twice now since moving to NYC about a year ago, and both times, I was absolutely dumbfounded by the staleness of the production. The sex appeal and glamour that I have seen in the various performances  on tourare nowhere to be found in the Broadway production right now. It's truly a shame as I really do love the show itself, but what's onstage at the Ambassador now is in major need of a facelift.

I saw Chicago at the Ambassador three times this summer and had the exact opposite reaction.  I thought it was sexy, sharp, and hot and the audience loved it each time.  I have never seen long run-itis symptoms at Chicago.  But I'm always on the lookout.

I've never seen this video.  It's Ryan Worsing, Melissa Rae Mahon, Carly Hughes and Leslie Stifleman.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMv9HJzpPMY   Both Carly and Ryan sound AMazing!
