The costs to keep this show open seem to be roughly two nickels and a smile. As I’ve said before they’re in a theater no one particularly wants, the entire company’s wardrobe fits on a single rack, and the Weisslers seem hell bent on beating Phantom if they can. Plus think of all the money they saved by keeping Amra for half of the run so far as Velma.
I doubt this casting will hurt their numbers, tourism might, but since there will be no published grosses this year, we’ll never know. In spite of having moved halfway across the country, seeing Lillias White live with a brand new Velma has made this show be on my shortlist for the holidays again.
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Good Lord, can we stop talking about Krakowski? Ain't never gonna happen. And the show ain't going anywhere.
Is this the exciting opening we were hoping for? Most definitely not. I'm sure delta ruined all their best laid plans for a grand reopening. It will certainly be unique to have the three main leads be Latin, but otherwise, it's more of the same, but I'm happy to be going back to support it.

Paulo Szot will be Billy Flynn. (from Chicago the Musical Twitter this morning.)
"Noel [Coward] and I were in Paris once. Adjoining rooms, of course. One night, I felt mischievous, so I knocked on Noel's door, and he asked, 'Who is it?' I lowered my voice and said 'Hotel detective. Have you got a gentleman in your room?' He answered, 'Just a minute, I'll ask him.'" (Beatrice Lillie)
Paulo Szot will play the role of Billy Flynn from Sept. 14--Nov. 21, 2021. https://www.pauloszot.com He will be out Oct. 13-14 for a concert engagement.

It is strange that no pictures of Ana Villafane as Roxie have been released. Also, there is no video of her rehearsing with the cast. What's up with that?

Maybe they're building up to it, so it's not just a publicity dump when the show doesn't even start for a few weeks. A

https://chicagothemusical.com/cast It's nice to have this cast list...finally. I was pleasantly surprised to see Sharon Moore is a part of the cast once more. I also checked with Telecharge. The principal cast list is no longer including contract dates. Oh well.

Which may have been the reason for going with just 5 shows a week. They just added Thursday nights, so it must be selling alright to add a sixth performance. They're not supposed to go up to 8 a week until November.
A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.
I am ngl, this casting news is a little underwhelming. With the “bombshell announcement” teaser I was hoping (still hope) for a Megan Hilty as Roxie and Kat McPhee as Velma combo. That would be awesome!

Yep. I am sure all great performers. But very boring casting. I have been disappointed with the re opening of Chicago so far. A wasted opportunity to give the show new legs and a fresh life.
Now is not the time to be playing it safe, this show more then others has relied overwhelmingly on international audiences, even if it cost next to nothing to produce, you still need to be bringing in the next to nothing to keep it open and these are names even casual broadway patrons probably don't know by heart
hoping for something with a bit more spark right before the holidays

Ana is 32 but bless her, she looks a lot younger. I do agree young Roxies don't' work for me. I remember seeing Veronica Dunne a few years ago, and she's now 26, so she was practically an infant when I saw her. Would've been worth it if she made it work, but she didn't. Also I still have no clue who she is.
