I love the original movie. Yet only seen it 3 times. This could go either way. If there is a way to pull it off or mess it up I’m sure they’ll find it
Ohhhh, lovely! This will be a great addition to my DVD collection alongside Amy Sherman-Pallidino’s Gypsy, Ryan Murphy’s A Chorus Line, Glenn’s Sunset Boulevard, Josh Gad’s Hunchbak of Notre Dame. Thomas Kali’s Fiddler on the Roof, Nick Jonas’ Jersey Boys, Disney’s Once On This Island, the Guys and Dolls remake, and the Beautiful film adaption,

They're meeting with writers and directors already
This feels like a great project for Paul King of PADDINGTON and WONKA fame.
I’d welcome a new adaptation. I remember enjoying the original as a child, but it’s kind of a mess of a script and a bunch of ideas that don’t fully gel.
As a kid, I enjoyed the showings on television. As an older person, I realized the movie's largely crap. But I can't see what the point is in remaking it other than IP exploitation. I guess they could try going back to the novel, but as many times as I tried to read it (again, as a kid), I could never get interested in it. *shrug*

I actually never watched the original until I was a senior in high school. I was surprised of its masterful quality.
I never saw the stage version of the show, but I finally watched the film a few summers ago for the first time, after only seeing clips.
The film seems like they took two short films, and connected them together to make one larger film.
Even as a child I found the film version to be... underwhelming? I put it in the same category as The Gnome-Mobile and Darby O'Gill and the Little People. But as an adult find it unwatchable. I believe there is definitely room for improvement in an revised of the original material. Should be interesting to see how it progresses.

I hope the script gets enough time in the oven
I love a few of the songs in isolation, but generally, even as a kid, I found the film insufferably twee. It felt like someone had said "Mary Poppins is too adult, can you make one that's just like it but more for the kids in the audience?"

It's a weird mix of sensibilities because it's the JAMES BOND producer trying to do his riff on a Disney movie, with a Roald Dahl script (which I recall was largely rewritten by other people) and it all went colossally over budget.
CHITTY, WILLY WONKA, and above all BEDKNOBS AND BROOMSTICKS all feel like attempts to capture the magic of POPPINS, and all have admirable elements but none quite get there. The missing ingredient is, probably, Walt Disney himself.
I’m in the minority that happened to love the musical adaptation, so I’m excited for this!

I actually think Chitty is on Mary Poppins level

I'm sure this new take on a coy children's book that flopped in its first run and flopped on Broadway will be a smashing success this time around.
A flying car will be sure to dazzle the post-Star Wars generations and a female character named Truly Scrumptious has so much to say about a woman's role in the 21st century.

They had better make it a musical, and they had better hire Charlie Stemp.

McKenzie Kurtz for Truly Scrumptious

Probably the obvious choice at the moment but why not Jonathan Bailey for Caractacus Potts?

who is this for? who is asking for this?
David Tennant would have been perfect for this 10/15 years ago.

This is what I’m trying to figure out. No one is really clamoring for more CCBB (even though we’re inching closer to the 60th anniversary), and it doesn’t appear to be a rights issue, so I’m perplexed.

I hope the remake has something to say to justify its existence. Maybe they can tap into the darkness of Vulgaria instead of playing it very campy

I think Warchus is a great choice
