I love how people say they receive PMs from people that have nasty things to say about board members. I find those to be highly questionable.

Why do people feel the need to say they've received PMs that support them, yet they receive no support on either of the boards?

Maybe it's because either:

A: They never received such a PM and only say they did to validate their own feelings.

Or

B: The person sending these types of PMs don't have they guts to face their opposition on the boards, directly, and they think they can gain sympathy for themselves by whining to other people in PMs.

And if the person has written it down, you shouldn't feel obligated to hide their identity. That just makes you as little as the person sending the PM.

ARTc3, it seems like all you post about is how awful and nasty this forum is. Literally, from your first post you've been calling attention to how ugly this place can be.

It can hardly be surprising that people may be inclined to think you are a previous poster with an axe to grind.

Not saying it's true, I know nothing about you, but you kind of made your own bed.

And the sheets have a very low thread count.

Yet, this very thread is about what I said in several - but by no means the majority of my posts - that people can get nasty here.

Do you not see the double standard.

TheatreDiva90016 you're absolutely right. I never should have mentioned the PM. I should have just made my point, which was that everyone has been perceived as a troll at one time or another.

I sent Jordan a copy of the PM, but didn't include who sent it, which also supports your post. My bad. There was no way for me to back up my comment as the very nature of this medium is such that nothing can't be forged. Again, I should have just made my point and left it at that.

So according to ARTc3, this is the PM that I wouldn't want shared here -

copied and pasted from a PM I received from ARTc3
on 8/21/13 @ 09:55:50 PM
"No it wasn't, it was aimed at Jordan's degrading and inhumane posts aimed at me."

The context... This poster wrote a post that I thought might be directed towards me and a comment I made. I PM'd them with an apology, if I had hurt their feelings. They replied with the above."

So.....I'm guessing he was PMing with SH*T Storm.

And ARTc3 and others really need to understand that there's a difference between "trolling" and "a troll". We're all guilty of trolling on here at one level or another from time to time. And given the circumstances, it's not always a bad thing. BUT being a full on full-time Troll is an entirely different thing and you really do need to learn that one does not equal the other.

tazber... one more thing regarding my "negative" posts... they weren't my first. There was an issue with my account and I had to reregister. I have been posting about the tone of these threads for quite some time.

Also, the context of my "negative" was a gentle warning to those new posters who were putting themselves out there. It is true, I have had my feelings hurt here, and I wanted to warn the poster of that possibility.

As for my bed... I'm very comfortable with how I am perceived here. I am here because I am passionate about theater and I want to read and discuss theater. Despite how "nasty" these threads can get, we are all still bonded by our passion for theater and for that reason alone, I come back.

I really think that while the ignore feature on the boards will help this problem, I still think there will be legit trolls around to cause problems.

I really admire the people on here with their fun, wit and knowledge of musical theatre, and I wish to share it with all of you.

That is all.

Jordan Catalano makes an excellent point about the there being a difference between being a "troll" and "trolling".

Just to be clear I don't think you're a "troll", ART. Never did.

I think your posts about Broadway Boosters and your critiques of various people's singing (at their request) have added genuine value to the discussions here.

You come off as a bit passive/aggressive at times though.

Still, glad you're here.

"Also, the context of my "negative" was a gentle warning to those new posters who were putting themselves out there. It is true, I have had my feelings hurt here, and I wanted to warn the poster of that possibility. "

The only person responsible for your feeling are you. To warn people that they may be hurting your feelings is laughable.

It's the Internet. If you can't handle the heat, then stay out of the kitchen.

I'll probably get called a troll for saying this, but this thread has basically just devolved into people who hate each other calling each other trolls. Unless the ignore feature is really implemented, this is not very useful. Said the soon to be called troll. In the meantime, I'm making popcorn!

Wrote a long post responding to Artc but it zapped away on my tablet.

Yes, new and highly expressive posters have often been suspected of being trolls, because as board history has proven, they often are. Especially ones who joined two days ago but have a longitudinal view of board history. People are understandably not trusting, and if the new poster uses the red flag phrase "long-time lurker" it has tended to be a big sign. All people have to do to prove they aren't trolls is to continue posting and not be trolls while doing it.

This is the fatal flaw, the missing ingredient, in sue's strategy. She continued to be a troll while arguing that she was not a troll. That's what trolls do. People who are going to teach the people on this board a lesson by obstinately trolling generally get their trolling asses handed to them.

The three best pieces of news we got today is that Rob is looking at taking some action, Craig is back even if only for a drive-by, and that Sue is "considering leaving." You can't troll, get a reaction, bitch about the reaction while continuing to troll, and not get resounding pushback from a large number of posters across genders, ages, races, political stripes and creeds telling you flat out that they are tired of your trolling and want you to leave. Trying to drum up behind the scenes support is never going to work when you're trolling on the boards while you're at it.

ETA And MattR, nothing about your post could lead to anybody calling you a troll. And what you're seeing in this thread is trolls being called trolls by people who aren't trolls and those trolls calling the people who aren't trolls "trolls." It's the "no I'm not, you are" strategy. A favorite of, you guessed it, trolls.

And, I will admit, right here and now, that I have always spotted trolls as soon as they appear. Some of them might take longer, after they've signed up, to start problems, but I always can tell who they are going to be.

It has something with the way they respond to other posters. I can never put my finger on it, but I have never, ever been wrong.

Well, except for one poster who isn't a troll, but I could spot they were not being truthful about some of their posts.

Now, the summer comes and there are just so many of them that it just pisses me off all the way around.

I've used this metaphor before, but it's like we are all enjoying a lovely party with intelligent conversations, and then the door slams open and people come running up to the punch bowl and just pee into it, and then that person wonders why no one else find them funny.

New posters used to actually introduce themselves when they start, and then we would learn a little bit about them BEFORE they started vomiting their opinions all over the place and demanding respect.

Respect is something that is earned, and so many of us have put in the time to get to know one another.

So, forgive me if I've been rude, but I have been burned too many times here to fake being cheery.
