I didn't think I'd like the remix that much because I didn't think Defying Gravity should be made into a remix, but I like the remix alot. I like it alot more than I thought I would. Idina sounds great and like the ways its arranged.
Q:What advice do you have for aspiring Broadway stars who are terminally shy? I love your work, because you seem so bold. How do you do it?
A:"I think I take more chances on stage then I do in real life but you can't learn anything if you don't challenge yourself. And don't say "terminally". If you love to perform then you have no choice, just keep training and focus on the words or the music whenever you find yourself slipping back inside yourself. You're not doing anyone any favors if you withhold your talents from the world"- Idina Menzel

Yeah Idina said her album wouldn't have any showtunes. However according to the article there are two new version of Defying Gravity being released on iTunes, the Tracy Young club mix, which is the version of myspace, and the Glen Ballard produced version of Defying Gravity. I hope the Glen Ballard produced version is more like the acoustic version from her concerts.

This Tracy Young one is made from the OBCR, which was produced by Glen Ballard, yes?
The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.
Derek Mahon
"Maybe all one can do is hope to end up with the right regrets."
no they are two seperate versions. I don't know if they used OBCR, it doesn't sound like it

Its a seperate version, recorded after her London stint.
Just heard it 20 minutes ago. Its ok, but I've never been a fan of Broadway songs being techno-ized. After Seasons of Love and All that Jazz, I've hated them.

I love Idina's vocals for this. I actually think Idina's vocals for the remix are better than they were for DG on the OBCR.

I just heard it. Love it. But I'm almost wanting more of a digital synth-twang/echo on some of the vocals....you just have to have a lot of that on a mix like this. Other than that, pretty hot. Best Broadway mix I've ever heard.
I heard it in a club, and I leaned in to the guy I was dancing with and said "As if this song couldn't get any gayer" It was seriously the gayest remix in the history of remixes.

Reviews and the like
the Ballard version of Defying Gravity's is up on Idina's new site. http://www.idina.com/ I like this one a lot more than they Tracy Young remix, its a lot like the ballad version that she has performed at her concerts.

"For a recent example of a showtune successfully remixed for the dance floor, check out "the other site" for "I Just Wanna Dance" from The Jerry Springer Opera. It's really infectious, and the accompanying video is fabulous! "
That video is just a fanmix isn't it?
I wish Defying Gravity wasn't Tracy Young--her sound is kinda tired veen as far as club music goes--but it's ok :)
Yeah, I like the Ballard/Oremus version much better. Is this just going to be an "independent single" or will this be a particular exception on her album for her no showtune statement?
I just think this arrangement compliments her voice much more! She sounds fantastic!
It's so weird to see how many of you so-called music fanatics have absolutely no clue what "techno" music is. By describing Tracy Young's mix of "Defying Gravity" or any of the officially commissioned Rent remixes as "Techno" or "Technofied", it just proves you don't know what you're talking about.
Techno is what you may have heard on certain nights at the Limelight in the early 90's. It sounds nothing like what is considered dance music today -- which grew out of house music in the 80's & 90's. Yes it's a harder sound than before, but it's NOT techno.
Kevinoes, ITA with you about this versions arrangement. I think this is an independent single, I doubt it will be on her album
