I was lucky to catch Nicholas Barasch's last performance as Orpheus in Hadestown in San Francisco yesterday. He was wonderful (as always) and there was a nice little farewell tribute to him by the company at the curtain call.
Does anyone know why he left the tour? Does he have something lined up on Broadway?
I've been a fan since first seeing him in Drood (on our night, the audience voted for him and Chita as the lovers) and was captivated by him in She Loves Me.

I think he's doing The Butcher Boy at Irish Rep.
And yes, I also saw him last week and agree he was excellent. Going again this week, and excited to see Chibueze Ihuoma's take on the role.
Nicholas Barasch was out when I saw it. I saw J. Antonio Rodriguez as Orpheus and he was excellent.
Was Barasch on for closing night of Drood? I know the bootleg (sorry) has the “threesome ending” with the male ingenue and both female ingenues kissing; was that a frequent inclusion, or just a cheeky treat for closing night?
He was great in LA. Surprised he'd leave a production contract for this, but maybe he goes back after the run?

Nick has been involved with THE BUTCHER BOY for its entire development. It's a project he's passionate about.

The Hadestown tour isn't on a production contract, they are on a SETA contract. A travesty, I know.

Really hope he takes over for Reeve Carney. That would get me back for a revisit.
Is Barasch such a promising young talent that it might be worth the risk to see Butcher Boy?
I don't know why, but when I first read about this upcoming musical, I mixed it up in my mind with Borstal Boy by Brendan Behan & got excited. Then I realized my mistake when I read the synopsis... "Oh yikes! that book." Butcher Boy is significantly darker, stranger. Not sure it will be up my alley.
Well, still, SETA is still a better paycheck than the Irish Rep. But I guess there's prestige with opening a new musical off-Broadway.

slightly off-topic
but I hope they cast Damon Daunno to replace Reeve

Unfortunately, I think his untimely exit from the tour may have doomed the chances of this happening.
As my gram used to say, “a ginger should never leave a good paying job.”

I'd love to see Damon also- i enjoyed Reeve more than most, but its such an odd take on such a central performance, and I've been waiting to go back to see new blood (tho bummed I miss Lana Gordon as Persephone).

Not necessarily. I have known many Seta contracts that, thanks to overage sharing, have paid better than Production.
How equity allowed the tony award winner for best musical to go out on a seta contract is a travesty.
After all the controversy of the recent equity cats tour not paying their cast the overages, who knows if other producers aren’t either. Producers will literally do anything to NOT pay their cast what their owed.
Saw Chibueze Ihuoma go on several months ago, and he's by far my favorite Orpheus.
Def seems odd he'd burn that bridge unless he was just over the show/role.
He may have made a deal before he took the job that he would leave for the other show, if as someone else commented, he has been involved with it for a while.
