so happy the cancelled. waiting on others to follow suit...
Curious if the national theatre will be able to rebook cancelled touring productions into their venue. When does the national theatre usually announce its subscription series?

Has Parade been cancelled yet? I hope they cancel it and find another venue in DC area.

not yet.

I’m sure the National is suddenly inundated with requests after being second-fiddle to the KenCen for so long. A nice problem for Nederlander to have.
There’s also the Warner Theatres, but that seems like an unlikely venue for large scale productions.

also, also: there's Ford's Theater. i know the logistical issues are significant, but it might be able to pick up some of the slack. Remember Come From Away had a pre-Broadway run there.
It may be fitting (but also somewhat subversive given the venue's history barring Black performers from its stage, though that was changed 70 years ago) to have Hamilton play D.A.R. Constitution Hall. The Washington Opera put on performances there about 20 years ago while the Opera House was being renovated.

But Ford’s is under the National Park Service.
The building itself is owned by the NPS, but the theatre company is independent. So, it’s not like Trump install himself as the chairman.
Probably too late to cancel PARADE and things for the current season. Parade could also get a lot of press coverage performing that piece in the lion’s den.
You can’t just snap your fingers and turn a venue into a touring house just because it has 1500+ seats. Tours are sold on subscriptions. The KenCen has a subscription, and the National has a subscription. Plus a level of marketing and production infrastructure needed to mount the same exact show in every city and offer a guarantee (up front money paid by the venue to the tour entity).
What I’m worried about is what if the Kennedy Center cancels these show last minute where they know they can’t rebook another venue? They already did it to Eureka Day and they could do it to Parade. I’m sure Parade is in a much different spot than Hamilton where the latter can afford to cancel and the former cannot, but the risk of the show being cancelled is still there.

This article is from YESTERDAY. The Trump-appointed Deputy Pentagon Press Secretary claimed that Leo Frank was guilty. We are living in the Upside Down.
Parade at the KC will become politicized, no doubt.

This is disgusting.
JRB and the producers of Parade tour, all eyes on you now. Pls find another venue
If a production can’t be cancel, I would like to see them go all the way to produce the “wokiest” version of the play. Imagine a production of Les Miz with a gender reversal, or a production of Legally Blonde with a special performance where Elle Wood is played by a drag.

That's going to defeat the entire meaning and impact of this production. The musical is based on a real life history and race/religion is crucial to conveying of this story. Cancellation is the only option.

“Let’s be clear on the facts. [Jeffrey] Seller and Lin Manuel first went to the New York Times before they came to the Kennedy Center with their announcement that they can’t be in the same room with Republicans. This is a publicity stunt that will backfire. The Arts are for everyone – not just for the people who Lin likes and agrees with. The American people need to know that Lin Manuel is intolerant of people who don’t agree with him politically. It’s clear he and Sellers don’t want Republicans going to their shows. Americans see you, Lin.” – Homocon Richard (But I will cancel anything that we don’t like.) Grenell

Correct. They should all cancel but it's crucial that JRB does since many Mag(gots)as do believe Leo Frank was guilty. Mr. Brown, there are other venues and the Kennedy Center doesn't deserve your brilliance until 2029. Please remove yourself from this Nazi equation.

You just vomited out a big fat load of lies. They simply do not want to be associated in any way with the Trump administration and anyone with two connected brain cells would easily understand why.

Honey, do you even know how to read?? It is a quote from Richard Grenell. NOT what I said. Now delete your bs statement and apologize. You are one of the people who make it miserable here and why I don’t comment often and following this post will not be compelled to comment again.

Well actually, with the Trump takeover of the Kennedy Center they have actively canceled performances that were to be held there and gave their very clear reasons for doing so. It's not abnormal for a touring production to see what values they hold and not want to associate with it. Republicans in DC want to sit and be able to watch Hamilton and be oblivious to its intent. Clap for the Queer monkeys performing on the stage and refuse to see them as people... so Lin said no. If you create a culture that makes people feel unwelcome and unsafe do not be surprised when they do not want to be around you. Its why major cities are such hot spots for Queer people, their homes have decided that they do not want them so they migrate to where people do.

Cause Hamilton really needs PR. Jeffrey and Lin are living paycheck to paycheck and this emergency publicity stunt is the only way they will be able to buy eggs this year.
