The National Symphony Orchestra is the remaining major resident performing arts organization. They'll obviously have a harder time finding a suitable replacement venue, given their audience size and more intensive performance schedule, but I have to believe they won't be there too much longer, either.

which begs the question
when they had the house and senate and white house trifecta from 2021 to 2023
why didnt the democrats pass stronger laws to prevent another trump or even trump 2.0
they underestimated the political power trump was able to amass
and they overestimated the intelligence of the majority of american voters
just like in 2016
_every_ upcoming kennedy center engagement should cancel and send a unified message
yes it will put innocent people out of work for a while
but its time to start thinking long term
with his name desecrating this institution it is blood money

i hope you're right, but IDK ... the NSO's contractual relationship with the Kennedy Center may be more complicated than WNO's was/is -- none of us knows that. and how ever "mutual" WNO's decision to leave was, you can bet an NSO departure would be far less amicable.
I am hopeful this will not lead to a City Opera-style demise for the WNO; City Opera leaving Koch was the deathknell. But C.O. also had years of poor finances, leadership changes, an inept Board president, and competition from the Met. And WNO has no meaningful local competition.

And they're making better Box Office than the WNO, even after the name change. That shouldn't be the reason they're staying but it probably is.
Any musician or musical organization that boycotted Russia after the invasion of Ukraine needs to not set foot in the Kennedy Center.

Grenell wouldn't know the truth if he fell over it. His and others mis-administration have cost the center, in terms of bookings, artists, subscribers and attendees ,greatly in terms of reputation and revenue.

Agree with all of this except the name change. They'll keep the "Trump and Kennedy Center" because that's what asset strippers do, they hollow things out by extracting whatever profit they can and then sell the shell.

I'm convinced part of Trump's mission is to make as many changes as possible, especially related to bricks and mortar, that history can never forget him and almost anywhere you turn in DC his name and presence will be memorialized. His changes to the White House alone almost guarantee this will be the case.

You're absolutely right. It will take years to undo the damage and that can only happen if democrats wins the presidency, senate, and house.

Interesting opinion piece from Frank Bruni in the New York Times:
"Trumps Knows His Power is Mortal."
I'd add it to my earlier comment, but the edit button inexplicably doesn't show for me and hasn't for weeks.

Hey opera lovers in DC and beyond, let's make sure all those Lisner Auditorium performances SELL OUT!
Fun fact: The company made its debut as the Opera Society of Washington in 1957 at Lisner Auditorium with Mozart's Seraglio
