Looking at the DOB Now page for the theatre, it looks like there was extensive construction being done on the roof the past few months. I'm curious if the construction went wrong or if they were trying to get ahead of a known issue.

Photo of the damaged light booth. Yeah that's not reopening any time soon.

Something tells me they won't have their still scheduled Thursday show. Good Lord.

That'll take awhile to repair. So now we have to ask, do they attempt to reopen in a few months? Or is the show done? Or do they hope another theater becomes available and they can relocate?

You keep asking and the answer remains: nobody knows yet.

That Reddit photo of the projection booth was deleted, as were many of the comments.

Can someone describe the level of damage?

The room was absolutely destroyed beyond recognition as anything, let alone technical space of a theater. There looked to be nothing salvageable.

I'm sure the cast and crew would like to know if they'll be getting paid if the show can't reopen.

Is it true that if performances are cancelled due to fire that actors and stage management don't get paid? I keep seeing this brought up in the comments sections of places posting the image, Reddit included.

Did anyone happen to snag the photo or a screen capture of it? I wouldn't mind taking a look.

I'm sure they would, too -- but I'm also sure that as of 36 hours after this all happened, they (the producers) are still waiting on inspections, assessing their options, and figuring everything out. Yes, it must be terribly nerve wracking to not know what's become of your job, but I don't think -- at this point -- any information is being held maliciously from the cast and crew.

chill out
its way too early for these types of decisions to be made
but u can rest assured they are starting to consider all of these options already
just moving to another theatre is not as simple as you seem to believe
the set was not built for portability and depends on modifications made specifically for the oneill
it is very expensive for a broadway show to move
which is why it is so rare
recently they have not been making the grosses necessary to justify such an expense
my guess is they will max out their insurance policy and attempt to make a comeback at the oneill
using the fire as a publicity stunt to goose grosses
maybe they will even add a joke about this in the script
until then
relax

Are you positive that you passed basic English in school ? Unless you’re E.E. Cummings, please use proper lower and upper case letters as well as spelling words their proper way. Things like replacing the word “you” with just the letter “u” itself. Doesn’t look good

The cast and crew found out about the fire and the cancelled performances via the show's Instagram. Several cast members commented when the show posted about the cancellations saying "would have been nice to find out through management". I don't think management is being transparent enough with the cast and crew.

What exactly is there to be transparent about? There's been a fire and until their Insurance says they can do differently, it's two days of canceled performances. Likely to be many more long term. I'm not exactly sure what kind of word they can give at this juncture barely 24 hours after the fire when there's not been a thorough inspection.
People are demanding answers for something no one has an answer for yet...
Like the reality is just looking at what has happened, you should jump into as many auditions as you can because there's no reality where they're paying you to sit this out long term.

Management doesn't seem that straight forward with the cast & crew about ths situation. If my company was on the verge of no longer paying me in 2 weeks, it would be nice to have some answers.

Your company will not do that because it must comply with the insurance policy they have for the fire that just burned down the business. So whether you know the future immediately or in 72 hours, it makes no difference for 2 weeks down the road. At some point, you need to be an adult and deal with what the likely outcome is going to be and make your own decision about your future. Being actors, this specific circumstance is unique but the situation of being out of work with short notice is very much not. Again, you've got time off now. Try and bank some auditions.

Yet again, you're operating under the assumption that management has figured it out -- which after less than 48 hours, they sure as hell haven't! You can't get structural surveys, repair estimates, equipment replacement estimates, building inspector sign-offs, water-damage mitigation quotes, etc in that amount of time. All of that is needed to make a determination if, and when, the show will return -- and only then they'll let the cast know! Would you rather get constantly changing, or most likely incorrect information, or wait until things can be properly assessed?

If you or I were out of a job because of a fire at our place of work, we'd expect our boss to be communicating with us at least daily about the situation. The question isn't about what they're announcing to the public, but how well they're keeping employees informed about what they know.

If management is telling employees that they don't know yet how things will play out, and giving them options accordingly, they're doing their job. If they're not saying anything at all because they don't know what's going on, they're definitely not doing their job. (I have no idea what is going on in this particular case. I just think it's weird that everyone is jumping to defend management without further information.)
