Just edited my comment above after speaking to a friend in the business. And yes, the show probably has performance interruption insurance and the theater has insurance also to cover losses.

The easiest move for the show would be to another ATG house. Any other theatre owner would just add another layer of difficulties.
The Book of Mormon is fortunate enough it’s been running long enough and with multiple companies around the globe; If there’s any damage to the set or costumes it should have duplicates of them somewhere in storage. Had this happened to a show from this season or last it would be forced to shutdown for good. I trust BOM will be able to whether this storm.

It's too soon to tell. We barely have any information other than there was a fire.
But- which theater would they go to? Nothing is available right now."
The Majestic and I'm not being snarky."
Once the nominations are announced tomorrow, I feel fairly confident that a closing notice will be announced shortly after. If they decide it's worth transferring to a different theatre, it's certainly possible.

If it decides to move for the time being, could MORMON take the August Wilson? Is DOLLY still the rumor there for the fall?
What is EVERY BRILLIANT THING’s plan post-Hargitay?

Which would probably take longer than the time the O'Neil is back up and running if there isn't significant damage. Seems a lot of the damage was electrical, so far.

The cost and logistics of moving the show to another theater seems very unlikely to me. I think it would have to be a shutdown of 6 months plus for that to be a feasible option. They will probably just go dark until they can be back at the O'Neill.

Or just close. The numbers aren't what they used to be, and 15 years is a great run. This could just be the sign to close up shop.

Knowing the south park guys and how much money this is making them, there's not a chance of them letting it close like this

If there is damage that has to be repaired, and FDNY has to approve that work, it's going to be a long while before it can get a sign-off to re-open. Hopefully after 15 years they have some reserves, or maybe the creators can use some of their residuals to keep paychecks afloat, because this likely to be weeks, if not months.

They're not gonna close this way after a 15 year run.

With the exception of the incredibly rare interview they did with Colbert, they are completely hands off with this at this point and the 1.5 billion dollar deal with Paramount regarding South Park is where their focus will always be. The show runs itself, they don't need it, and probably won't be devastated when it closes. Great run tho.

Isn’t there also money from insurance?

Both of them and Robert Lopez were at the 15th anniversary celebration and did a feature in the NY Times, plus Trey Parker was supposed to appear as Joseph Smith as part of the 15th anniversary festivities in June. I wouldn’t call that hands off.
I doubt they let the show close for good like this.

The Playbill article has been updated: https://playbill.com/article/report-fire-breaks-out-at-broadways-eugene-oneill-theatre-home-to-the-book-of-mormon
"Updated, 2:24 PM ET.
Broadway's The Book of Mormon will be forced to close indefinitely following a three-alarm fire on the roof of its home, the Eugene O'Neill Theatre, per a report in The New York Times."

I am so glad no one was hurt and I so hope the show is able to find a way to continue on despite the damage. I've not been to the show in awhile, but I will always hold a special place in my heart for it.
I certainly hope this is not how the show closes as it deserves a real proper send off when it does eventually close.

I doubt they’ll close but if the theater has to be shut down for a few weeks it’s probably a good time to renovate other parts of the theater. After all, the last time the theater had a renovation was over 15 years ago.

Considering they've done nothing with the show for many, many years I'd still call that quite hands off. A week long celebration where he makes one appearance isn't really doing much. I doubt that happens now anyway. Unlike other people, these guys don't depend on this show for survival. I guess now they'll decide to close it for a few months, forever, or switch theaters (the least likely and most expensive option).

I wonder what “indefinite” ultimately ends up meaning. Obviously, this is all developing, but I have to imagine they have some kind of loose timeline for what the building repairs will entail. “Indefinite” could mean the difference between reopening at the O’Neill and trying to relocate the show to another theater, not to mention closing altogether if it proves too costly.

I think they are more involved than you think. They made a few promotional appearances with the tour recently. Not that it means anything. There is also the matter of loving and taking pride in your show and doing the right thing for the company members. We will see. You don't know anything.

It just means there is no known reopening date yet. Chill.

Neither do you sweetie except lying about Joshua Henry being "out all weekend" on the Ragtime thread and going silent when I called you out on it. He was incredible on Saturday BTW. Whoops 🙃

I didn't lie. I was notified he would be out. You are a pretentious know it all. And so defensive. There is really something wrong with you. You are a pathetic and sad human. All your posts reek of desperation. Everyone takes issue with you.
