Okay, yes, it's been awhile since I've posted and been up on Broadway/Broadway movie news, but I had no idea that Anika Noni Rose would be in this film! I'm intrigued. It'll be interesting to see how this one will pan out.
Q: What is the most weirdest or funniest thing a fan has asked you?
Joe Flanigan, Stargate Atlantis: When a fan asked me for help with his grammar. I'm available.
Entertainment Tonight has a video link posted now on their main page. It's at a photo shoot of the main cast, and has an interview with Beyonce. Everyone looks great!
timote is right. by having all the focus on the "Deena" character Beyonce, it is a case of life imitating art, since that is exactly what happens in the show. Deena is the one who gets all the attention and Lorrel and Michelle get pushed to the wayside. this is seen in the "one more picture, please" Vogue magazine photo shoot. it is a good idea, and this is how it should be.
oh, and Dreamgirls is slated to open around Christmas of this year.
"I'm an American, Damnit!!! And if it's three things I don't believe in, it's quitting and math."
but seriously, if you click and watch the video on et's page you get several glimpses of the girls in various costumes and wigs. all three look absolutely beautiful.
Marquise -- I agree they all look beautiful and totally right for this. Love the "Annette Funicello" comment. So true! I think every young female in the country was trying to look like Annette back then. She was the big hottie of the day. And Beyonce is a dead ringer here. The hair, makeup and costume are all just right.
I love the other images in the photo shoot (video) as well. Jennifer and Anika look great and perfect for their roles as well. Very exciting.

They look great in the picture and also looked great on ET. Now I definitely understand why they went for Jennifer Hudson over Fantasia. It is clear the Jennifer and Anika won't be part of the interview sessions once this movie comes out, ie Leno, Letterman, etc. They didn't even mention the ladies names. I think this movie is going to be very different from the broadway play. Deena is going to be the all around star and none of them will have a glory moment, according to the early going. Even jamie foxx refused to acknowledge the other two dreamgirls. Interesting but not surprising and no, it isn't the way it should be, they all should and would be acknowledged by name instead of bodies if they were going to have a major impact in the picture.
Ummm..."And I Am Telling You" (and "Ain't No Party") are two of the major highlights of the show -- I'm sure Jennifer and Anika will still have plenty of screentime.
I think what the markters of this filmis doing is smart. They're using the big stars they have hired such as Beyonce, Jaime, Eddie, and Danny to lore people in an get attention to just get the name out there. Espeicaly to theose who don't know the musical but once they really begin the serious promtions Jennifer,Anika and Keith will get much play
Once this movie comes out, there won't be any doubt as to who Jennifer Hudson is. It would be ridiculous of them to try and make this movie just about Beyonce.
Anyways...check out this awesome featurette (it shows them rehearsing, in the studio, etc):
Okay, let me provide you with a counter-example. The top-billed stars of the second X-Men movie were Hugh Jackman and Halle Berry, but Berry had one of the smallest parts. They just hyped her up because...well, she's Halle Berry. The fact that the entertainment shows are focusing on Knowles is unsurprising- they're star worshippers. That doesn't mean anything pertaining to how the movie will be.
I really must say that after watching the featurette video i feel so much better. i mean this movie is really going to be phenomenal and i think jennifer hudson is going to do it some great justice. the cast seems flawless and fresh to me and i cant wait for the release of the movie at the end of the year! i am really really really excited! everything looks wonderful.
The one thing that caught my eye about the featurette is that Jenn is working really hard with the choreographer. I think some folks said she wouldn't handle the dancing part well. She looks good to me.
"Steppin' On The Bad Side" didn't sound too awesome though. The girls sounded fantastic on "Dreamgirls" though. Updated On: 1/18/06 at 11:26 PM
Don't know if these have been posted, by the blog JustJared has some photos taken during the recording session:
Also Beyonce (?) on the set / screen test (?):

that video was amazing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Beyonce is absolutely breathtaking. wow. im speechless. and j. hudson! that and i am telling you was fire. the one thing i appreciate and find so positive is the fact that condon is directing the girls in the studio as well. thats incredible. hes making his mark on all parts of this and you can see that it's his baby. i believe its in the right hands guys. i also really wanna hear margo's take on the featurette.
"Girl, this cupcake is the jumpoff"- Adriane Lenox
yes.. it really is amazing! and even better its nice to finally see 3 girls cast in the rolse that actually LOOK the age they are supposed to be in the begining of this piece!!!
Who is the cinematogropher? I ask, because believe it or not, some technicians don't do enough films with black actors as the leads to know how to film darker skin properly.
As bad as some low budget black films are, the actors are always filmed in the most flattering way because the cameramen and lighting crews for these films have tons of practice doing films in which all or most of the casts are black.
I's incredible how much better actresses like Gabrielle Union and Nia long look in black films when you compare how they look in more mainstream Holywood fare.
In Alfie with Jude Law, Nia Long looked okay, if a little drab and recessed. But in The Best Man, she was so gorgeous her skin positively glowed.
An no, I'm not implying that white cameramen makeup artists and lighting tech are trying to make black women look bad. My point is that they don't in general, ahe enough practice trying to amke them look good. So they ususally fall short.
I hadn't even thought about the quality of cnematography until I saw that guy with the light meter and the first thing I thought was, are they going to make the Dreams look drab?
I wish Ernest Dickson was shooting this. He makes everyone of every color look like a million bucks.
