The staging for Let It Go is GREAT.
I love the staircase extending over the audience. Hopefully they do that or something equally as impressive for Broadway.

Have other Disney musicals on Broadway been sing-alongs? I don't remember The Little Mermaid or The Lion King having any sing-alongs or screaming girls when I went. TLM was one of the best behaved audiences I've ever been in.
Frozen is aimed directly at little girls and they will be so hyperactive by the time they take their seats that nothing will keep them contained.
I'll wait till Hell freezes over before I see this.

At the price of a theatre ticket these days, I don't think you see THAT kind of crowd at a Broadway show anymore. A few years ago, yes, but once the price of a single ticket went up over $100, less and less of folks that are not usual theatre goers are going so you are seeing less and less small children unfamiliar with the theatre at performances.
If you are a family with 2 or 3 kids, a Broadway show is gonna run your family over $700 for 2 and a half hours of entertainment. And that is JUST the show. That doesn't include travel, food, lodging it you are from out of town for the day/night, merchandise to bring home, etc. It will easily run your family of 4-5 WELL over $1000 for a two day trip. Unless you are a regular theatre goer or a local, most parents are not gonna shell that kind of cash out when they can put it towards a full vacation.
The kids you ARE gonna see at a Broadway show now are coming from a background that their folks are common theatre lovers and goers and likely have been taught the rules of theatre etiquette and are well behaved.

Article about the differences between the theme park show, the one on the cruise line, and then the Broadway version. It says Let it go is the Act 1 closer.
Why not have the same creative teams? Or at least the same for the cruise ship and Disneyland prods.

Uhhh...duh! How could it not? Very surprised because I presumed Act 2 will be after Elsa freezes Anna's heart. I'm very intrigued how the book will follow the movie.

because they're all developed and produced by completely different arms of Disney. each arm operates differently and has their own goals, vision, etc. for THEIR version. why does it matter anyway?
do you really want BROADWAY to look like a cruise ship production?
The article says Greg Hildreth was Olaf in the lab. I wonder who played Hans?
Hildreth is a Timber's baby, so makes sense.
i just hope Hans isnt Derek Klena.
I think Adam Kantor could be a good choice for Hans. It could possibly be a change from conventional leading male roles he usually plays.

Disney submited a patent application for 'Selectively Activated Color-Changing Hairpiece'. It is possible that this will be used after Elsa's magic hits Anna and her hair starts turning white.

^That'd be my guess, it makes sense.

Love is an Open Door as a reprise/finale makes sense, just because it offers that happily ever after moment for the characters. It's catchy, too.
Yikes, I hope you're joking...That felt so "We have to end with a musical number"/so tacked on, it hurt...It was always known there'd be no new songs for that specific production, but REALLY?? That?? That song is...not good as it is, but to use it as the 'in show' finale' was just awful. The 'aahhhing' of "Snowman' as it is in the film would have been just fine. Now, as a post curtain call finale, yes, use 'Open Door'. I did like the parents return but it could have been handled better. When it comes to Broadway, there NEEDS to be a new song written for the 'in show' finale, the film's end would have worked for DL, but Open Door does not work as the in context finale AT ALL. Ack, just, so tacked on. That whole final scene honestly is going to be really hard to stage without real creativity to keep it from being/looking/feeling awkward as hell.
That white coat...I know it seems to be that it's only because that's the only way we can see the freezing effect, but was there seriously no other way to do it on that other outfit we all know well? My actor brain hurt with so many 'justification' issues, and that was one of way too many. She leaves the trolls and comes back with a white coat, that no one knows or questions where it came from...and it's not acknowledged. I'm a HUGE justification fan. But the effect itself is really cool.
That official DL video of the technology also had a snippet where it was shown on a look a like Elsa for whatever reason, and because of that I was led to believe it would be used for her costumes change/costume too. I was disappointed it wasn't because it totally can be because that costume change was super underwhelming. Any costume change that one can figure out in 5 seconds how it's done is a bad or boring one. A William Ivey Long Cinderella costume change mixed with the geode technology would be fracking fantastic. It took me quite a while to figure out how Long did that, and I've said for a while he should be designing the costumes for the Broadway production, and I'm sad he's not. His costume changes are innovative and magical and STILL make the actor look good...cause these...aren't flattering on anyone.
I've written a three page essay on my thoughts on the DL production, which I obviously won't include here because I won't lie I kindof tore it apart. I have to agree with Liza's Headband overall, it's pretty atrocious. And if budget cuts because of Shanghai are the reason for this underwhelming production that I know could be great, shame on the creatives dpt. Is it ok for a theme park show? I guess so. I have to remind myself that theme park isn't about 'art and character development' etc. but still even for theme park it's not good. Aladdin was an award winner compared to this. Even for theme park, they didn't try to fit a square into a circle and just shove the movie onstage, they adapted it. Almost none of the original script was intact for that production. Here, they just rewrote some lines and shoved the movie onstage....and it falls very flat even if the parks just shove the films onstage. I get that for the parks (sort of), but for this to work on Broadway (onstage in general) heaven almighty it needs to be adapted...A LOT. DL proves putting it on stage as is, even in a park, makes the problems and plotholes the movie had even more obvious than they already were. The story and script need changing, the structure too. Tie up the loose ends, nail the theme down for heaven's sake, and someone direct those awkward and long scene transitions and pregnant pauses out of there. But the beauty of the full length musical is that it can be expanded obviously. Frozen CAN work onstage, but it needs a lot of changes.
I apologize for this being way longer than intended. though I may be primarily 'the actor' seeing certain shows has caused my 'director' self to come out in full force with ideas of how I know it can be fixed, and make me wonder how someone who actually directs for a living can miss these things...Carry on with life.

YES...THIS!!! From far away it wasn't too off putting, but I still noticed that her hair obviously isn't 'frozen over', even her face caught the effect. This is step in the right direction, production quality wise. It reading things like that make me love theater magic.

Yyesssssss I'm all about it! A moment of thankful silence for our beloved LMM who set this precedent to go back to Workshops rather than the 'cheap labor' Lab.
I've actually been wondering about this ever since Hamilton won their own case. Sounds like this was done with mild to no drama, so yay for that. I know some people will say "great, tickets prices will be higher than they already are" but that's another story. Some prices like the use of the theater are just gouging and that's it. There's no reason for it. Unless a financial apocalypse happens (which I'll never say CANT happen) this will be financially just fine.

Now that The Bandstand seems dead - any chance we could see Laura Osnes as Anna? I think she would be perfect.
Any chance they'll release who the cast is for the next lab production taking place later this month? So anxious to hear if Betsy is still involved. Also, we have most of the cast of "Hamilton" to thank for this. Certainly not Lin, who negotiated that his father get a cut before any of the cast was even thought of for the amazing work they're doing. Clearly not mild to no drama in any sense of the word, but it's done with now, and everyone won in the end, thank goodness.
Lots of children seem to be "so over Frozen". Maybe a new generation will be hungry again in 2018?
Oh, by the way, Corey Cott was Hans in the first lab with Betsy Wolfe and Patti Murin.
