According To Reidel's column today, the owners of the Walter Kerr (GG is current tenant) are looking for another show. He goes on they will not get much of a bounce from their double Tony win
I haven't heard specifically about GG but the Tonys don't tend to make much of a bounce at the box office, unless it is mega-hit mega-win such as THE PRODUCERS or possibly now SA.
I think Grey Gardens will close sometime soon unless Ebersole and Wilson renew their contracts -- they're the two aspects of the show everybody raves about.

Tonya Pinkins: Then we had a "Lot's Wife" last June that was my personal favorite. I'm still trying to get them to let me sing it at some performance where we get to sing an excerpt that's gone.
Tony Kushner: You can sing it at my funeral.
Didn't the Playbill article that said Spring Awakening got a big bounce from the Tonys say that Grey Gardens and Curtains also have increased ticket sales?
I am a firm believer in serendipity- all the random pieces coming together in one wonderful moment, when suddenly you see what their purpose was all along.
GREY GARDENS will never be "widely seen." It is too special, too artistic and too esoteric to ever appeal to the masses. This doesn't mean it is a bad show, nor does it negate the feelings that many of you have for it. But the truth is that it is not a crowd pleaser and it never will be.
Cheyenne Jackson tickled me. AFTER ordering SoMMS a drink but NOT tickling him, and hanging out with Girly in his dressing room (where he DIDN'T tickle her) but BEFORE we got married. To others. And then he tweeted Boobs. He also tweeted he's good friends with some chick on "The Voice" who just happens to be good friends with Tink's ex. And I'm still married. Oh, and this just in: "Pettiness, spite, malice ....Such ugly emotions... So sad." - After Eight, talking about MEEEEEEEE!!! I'm so honored! :-)
But I don't think we WANT it to be a big crowd pleaser. We want it be successful, but we don't expect it to do Disney business or something. The last thing I would want is screaming tweens at the Gardens.
Ehh, as much as I love the show, I agree with your statemant. That being said so many of the greatest pieces of musical theater didn't appeal to audiences and had to grow an audience over the years.
omgz, that is so rude of them to say that when grey gardens hasn't even closed yet!! go to hell with mel brooks!
Just kidding about that.
I love Grey Gardens - it's one my favorite shows and the best I saw this season. However, I don't see it lasting much longer after October. Even if it had gotten more Tonys, I don't think it would have helped since Grey Gardens simply isn't a crowd pleaser.
No it does not. That is a rumor on BWW and it started when the posters were trying to figure out what Jujamcyn theater it was going into. That is not the theater that it wants, but it will most likely end up there.
I see it having a Sweeney Revival future. It'll likely close in the fall with the stars' departures. The stars of Sweeney never left... The production closed with the Original Broadway Cast.

I think it'll close in Oct. when her contract is up.
"A birdcage I plan to hang. I'll get to that someday. A birdcage for a bird who flew away...Around the world."
"Life is a cabaret old chum, only a cabaret old chum, and I love a cabaret!"-RIP Natasha Richardson-I was honored to have witnessed her performance as Sally Bowles.
I know it won't be a long-lasting thing, but GG got a huge spike from the Tonys this week. Tuesday's performance was sold out, which I believe was the first time that's happened since October or November, and almost all the available tickets for the weekend shows have been sold.

Excellent point. Perhaps I'm some sort of elitist-in-training, but it always pisses me off when something I love becomes insanely popular, especially among people who don't really appreciate it for what makes it great. I want the show to keep running mostly so I can see it again, but I don't really WANT it to be an amazing commercial success. I kinda enjoy the fact that it's the underdog.
Can we please stop talking about Riedel? He is not only an a-****, but he seems to be wrong quite often.
Anyone know if MLW is coming over to London with Christine?
Why, hello Margaret! Yes darling, half past five. Well, everyone, simply le tout Park Avenue and la creme de Hyannis! Well, the press table's going to be awfully crowded... but if you don't mind sharing a folding chair with Harper's Bazaar... Sing? Me? Heavens no, it's Edie's day, not mine... Although people can be so insistent, and I hate to disappoint. Twist my arm, blackmail me, threaten my very life, and who knows? You might get a verse of something...

I don't know where your information is coming from -- if you're making it up or what, but I was in the audience on Tuesday night and there were empty seats all around me. The show was not sold out on Tuesday.
