Hell, if this is what's considered "big" nowadays, anything is possible.
Wow! If Jen Hudson was the weight she was ten years ago today and she was cast as "Motormouth Maybelle" - she wouldn't have needed a "fat suit". The fact that they may have to go that route is in the end a great thing. She has really kept off that weight! She looks amazing - - - and her voice is a gift from God. I don't care if they have to use a fat suit. I'm looking forward to seeing her in this.
Liza's Headband said: "She has to keep it off. She's being paid millions of dollars to do so. "
That's quite a stupid thing to say, even for you Liza. She won the grammy and had sold out concerts, before the weight loss. She was insecure with herself, struggled with the weight a lot, and has been an inspirational figure (no pun intended) for a lot of people. If you cannot appreciate a person's efforts to live a healthier life, don't dismiss it as something they are doing for the money.

I am. Her contract terms and obligations with WW have not formally concluded. It's wonderful that she lost the weight but it's also a fact she must do so to hit incentivized 'benchmarks' ... I'm not sure why my post was taken so harshly.
Marie Osmond, Melissa Hart, Dan Marino and Kirstie Alley are many others who have done the same thing. No harm in doing so!
I am inclined to agree. Endorsement contracts are a fickle thing. She may not be filming commercials for them any longer, but that does not mean that the contract is still not in effect. The goal of WW is to lose weight and keep it off. If someone where to balloon three months after they finish filming commercials, it negates the entire mission and campaign.
That said, aside from Hudson, you do not have a very expansive list of NAME actresses of color and size who can carry those songs. Yes, there are women of color and size who sing that role brilliantly, some known theatre names, some relative unknowns, but not who could anchor a major television event.
True. Nobody (myself included) have been able to come up with a viable alternative. And it's not horrendous casting. It's not like Allison Williams is playing Motormouth.
I had a strong feeling that Dove was going to be Amber. Hadn't heard of Garrett until now, but yeah he looks right.
Disney stars? Is that the best we can do?
I mean, they're young enough to do the role and were in Disney musicals. I am sometimes against stunt casting, but these two sound right for Amber and Link. I wondered what happened with Becca and Nick?
I mean they cast a couple teenage Disney stars... as teens. They probably won't be revolutionary, but they should do at least well. It's not like the overall quality of the broadcast relays on who plays Amber. They're obviously trying to appeal to a bunch of demographics.
Harvey Fierstein- Broadway
Jennifer Hudson- R&B/Pop, Broadway
Kristin Chenoweth- Broadway, television
Martin Short- SNL, Broadway, movies, etc.
Dove Cameron- Disney channel watching preteens who will tune into anything to watch her
Ariana Grande- Pop music, Nick star, Broadway
With performers from such a wide range of fields, I would expect nothing less than a ratings success.
