And, don't forget, Clayton is also in King Cobra, the drama about gay porn. So that will break him away from the teen movies.

OMG You are so right! Once an actor has appeared on the Disney Channel they should never be allowed to act in anything else anywhere else ever again. They are all so safe and boring.
These roles should be played by someone edgy, exciting and controversial! How about Stephen Tyler as Link and Britney Spears as Amber? They are totally out of left field. Nobody will ever see it coming. How exciting and controversial that would be, not safe at all, but thrilling! Who cares if Dove Cameron and Garrett Clayton look the part, can sing the part, and are reasonably appropriate for their respective parts? Someone thrilling and unexpected should totally be cast instead!
Seriously though, that whole "boring" argument is really the most silly thing that gets posted around here all the time. When off the wall people get cast in stuff like this, you end up with the 2004 Phantom of the Opera movie. Safe choices tend to be the best choices.

dove cameron makes sense. she has a decent sized fanbase, has worked with Chenoweth before and is legitimately talented in my opinion. Garret Clayton really seems like a weird choice though. I dont really why they why they went with him besides being a Zac Efron look alike.

I don't mind the casting, I guess...but I'm really hoping that Garrett doesn't play the role of Link the same way that he played his character Tanner in Teen Beach Movie, who was kind of similar to Link except dumber and less charming.

Did you read the press release? It is pretty clear someone else is. Not her.

Becca's name was inadvertently added onto an NBC media kit that showcased HAIRSPRAY: Live! (no reason explained). Madness on her social media and online boards (including IMDB) mentioned her casting which she quickly corrected stating it was a nice rumor but not true (even her mom called to congratulate her). Everything was quickly cleared up with the error.

Sean Hayes and Rosie officially join the cast. Production will take full advantage of the Universal lot as well.
Still no word on Seaweed?

My personal choices for both those roles were Ricki Lake and John Waters, but I guess these two will do.

This has got me really excited!!! So now all that needs to be cast are Seaweed, Prudy, Little Inez, The Dynamites, Spritzer and the Matron (if Dollhouse is still in this production, which I'm hoping).

I really hope the madison, the big dollhouse, and it takes two are still in this. I have such high hopes for this production.

I wouldn't be surprised to hear the remaining cast this week and I can't wait to find out who is playing seaweed and I hope they include the big dollhouse one of my fave songs. Who has the first look vid of the cast in costume?

UGH.... I hope that doesn't mean It Takes Two and Cooties will be cut. Sad that this is seemingly turning into the 2007 movie rather than the musical...
I have no idea who Amber and Link are (was hoping for James Maslow...oh well) which makes me feel very old.

Since it's the same producers it's no surprise that this will just be a live version of their movie. They proved with Peter Pan and The Wiz that they have no respect for the original script and score and will make whatever changes they please.

James Maslow is only 2 years younger than Zac Efron, and he played Link 9 years ago. Plus he no longer has that boyish look (I just learned by googling him).
I'm also disappointed this is sounding like a live version of the movie. Why do Meron & Zadan always do this??
