well that assumes you don't count previews (which I do) in which case, Honeymoon ties Bridges (the current leader) at Wednesday's matinee this week. But I'd suggest having that a performance doesn't mean much when you have almost as many bodies on stage as in the audience.
Pinto, help me out here. Who should I believe: you or the box office treasurer? Because the official report on the number of paid and comped tickets last week was a mighty 59.9% of the total seats? (And let's ignore the fact that (because people like you mostly bought cheap tickets) the revenue from those 59.9% of the occupied seats was a paltry 35.43% of the revenue that those tickets were supposed to generate.) Should I believe the box office treasurer? or should I believe you, because you have NEVER exaggerated or mis-stated anything, have you?
what are you people talking about?? The numbers CLEARLY show that more people are attending AND paying to see the show ( which is why they went up $100,000 this week) despite what you want to believe
You have to wonder why the producers are keeping this open. It's losing money every week and the Tony nominations won't come out for a while. And do they really think they will win best musical against competition like Something Rotten, The Visit, Fun Home, An American in Paris, and Finding Neverland?
Fisherman, why do u say that sarcastically when it's the truth? And they are keeping the show open because they are hopeful that things will pick up, as they have been.
Pinto, with that $100k increase they only lost $150-200k last week. How many years will you have to work to pay that off. And that's one week! The week before they lost $250-300k.
"Fisherman, why do u say that sarcastically when it's the truth?"
Philly, I have to be honest. You're becoming my guilty pleasure on this board. You're just so unbelievably and blissfully naïve, I can't tell you how entertaining you are. You go girl! Haha, LOL!
On that Chris Christie joke - when Honeymoon in Vegas played at Papermill, Rob McClure shouted "Joan Rivers" at that point in the Fricki Fricki song. After her sad and untimely death, Rob replaced "Joan Rivers" with "Egg Salad" (as heard on the recording). For some time, Rob even used "Bruce Jenner"...and now, apparently, he is using "Chris Christie". I suppose the subject of that "joke" can be switched based on Rob (or the director's) whim.
brdwydreamer.....a big welcome from me too, because you made my day when you said that you also had problems posting for the first time....thanks to all who helped with the instructions
If the criticism of the show and it's content were the focus I would have no issues with Honeymoon getting it's lumps. But it honestly feels like a pack of wolves trying to rip apart a carcass here. The story isn't the show and what works and what doesn't. It's the box office. I really hate that kind of stuff.
I've seen it. It's a decent show and has it's moments. Danza, however, was a misstep. I've never been a huge fan of his or anything he's done. He even annoyed me on Taxi reruns I'd watch. I honestly wonder what a different leading man does for this show. I honestly think he's the problem.
The carcass is PhillyPinto. Nothing more. The show has plenty of folks here that have enjoyed and even loved it.
At the end of the day, it's only about the box office: and this has been an utter failure in that respect. I've no interest in the show at all, what little I did have stopped dead in its tracks when I heard Danza on the recording. UGH.
Lots of shows that are great fail. Lots of shows that suck fail, too. In the end, it doesn't matter...the show failed to find an audience. A flop is a flop is a flop. The part no one understands is the producers unwillingness to see it...and we marvel at the depths of their pockets.
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
Just curious, because I have not seen the show. Only a few clips online.
Does Tony Danza appear, on stage, to be the right age for this part, next to Brynn O'Malley who should be close to his age, and Rob McClure who should be at least 10 years older for the Jack Singer part?
Also, why is Tony Danza's tap dancing worthy of the praise from some reviews? Is it because nobody thought he could do it at all, or because he's very good?
