Just saw this today afternoon. What a wonderful show! It was so funny and energetic, with amazing performances from the entire cast. Rob McClure was hilarious. I walked in without any knowledge about the show (never saw the movie), and absolutely loved it. The Orchestra seemed pretty full today afternoon, no idea about the mezzanine. I am also very sad to hear that this show is not doing well. In my opinion, this show is better than Kinky Boots (which I also liked), which is doing very well in ticket sales. Sometimes it just doesn't make much sense to me. I mean, even though shows like Side Show and Bridges of Madison County were great in my opinion, I can understand why tickets did not sell. But a show like this one? I would think that it would be doing much better than it does now. Here's hoping that it finds its audience soon. It truly is an amazing show, I would love to see it again!
^ Well you better go back soon!

hanabana,
I think the problem is that anyone who would like the show would have to actively want to see the show. It's not that easy of a sell on face value because nobody remembers the movie really and there's nothing to really sell it to those who know nothing about it.

I wanted to see Kinky Boots and loved it when I saw it (and has seen it 3x so far) but I have no desire to see Honeymoon in Vegas at all. Hey who knows I may be pleasantly surprised but nah I can't get the motivation to buy the tix! I am planning a May trip and still has 2 slots open. I have tix to On the Twentieth Century (my second visit, I saw in previews in Feb) and Something Rotten

hanabana's comment illustrates again that many of those on this board who enjoyed and expressed puzzlement over its poor sales don't think like tourists.
Meh movie, not a big star draw, and it's something about Vegas. Nothing great to sell at face value like Scotty says, with the $$$ ticket risk for many tourists.
WOW, looks like way less than half of the house is sold is Tuesday. http://www.ticketmaster.com/event/03004CD7F3A8E4D4
Not that it should be a surprise but according to my friend that works in the industry, this is the current laughing stock and everyone is dumbfounded as to why it's still open. :P
It's sad when people post links to buy tickets and the houses aren't even half full. Every time. Just close the damn thing already. This show defies all logic.
Is Phil ok? It's Sunday and no report on the Friday night show - nor any response to the ATC rumor.

He didn't clean his room before going to see the show like he promised so his mom took away computer privileges for the weekend.

^And if he didn't pay premium or full-price for those tickets, he's not putting his money where his mouth is.
Well according to a recent article, Honeymoon in Vegas is Sondheims favorite new show.
If Sondheim likes it... can it be cool to like it now?

No.
Much of the discussion has not been about whether Honeymoon is great, good, mediocre or bad. It has simply been about its lack of a paying audience. So, you can like the show - even love the show - but recognize that as a business venture, the show is not a success.

I guess he saw the matinee @3 today but originally posted that he was seeing it on Friday 3/13. Anyway, I guess he's still writing his rave review.
He's researching details about the show no one here has discussed -- to try to impress us. I vote that he never was there.

His answer in the article was truncated because they were short on space and wanted to focus more on what his upcoming projects were.
The truncated quote the article used: Favorite Recent Broadway Show: Honeymoon in Vegas–“The essence of the musical theatre I grew up on.”
His full unpublished answer as given to the interviewer: "Favorite Recent Broadway Show: Honeymoon in Vegas–“The essence of the musical theatre I grew up on is what this poster Goldenboy keeps repeating again and again on BWW. So, I went to see it. Unfortunately, I thought it sucked. My favorite would actually be any recent revival of one of my shows".

I decided to see this on Saturday afternoon. Got a discounted ticket 4th row center aisle. I enjoyed it. Rob McClure was great, Brynn O'Malley was charming. Tony Danza--was Tony Danza. Some good songs ---liked the Elvis song and "Betsy Getting Married". It is not in the running for the Pulitzer Prize, and should be grateful for a Best Musical Tony nomination. But, it was a fun show to watch. They should market this to middle age women who loved Who's The Boss. There were several in the audience and they loved it! :)

Middle aged women probably don't like the fact that the main female lead is used only as a prop, and currency for the boys.

Did you not watch Who's the Boss?
The middle age women were all chattering about how they loved the show. There were several groups of women in attendance when I was there.

There is much more to her character than that. She comes off as the one that has her act together the most. She love the guy, but she tries to stop his foolish behavior.
"The middle age [sic] women were all chattering about how they loved the show. There were several groups of women in attendance when I was there. "
The middle aged women were not all chattering about anything - you did not hear all of the middle aged women at the show, but statistically, they could not have all been chattering about the same thing, regardless of what that is. In other threads, people have posted links to an article interviewing Thomas Shumacher from Disney pointing out that 2/3 of Broadway theatregoers are women, and the median age is in the late 40's - in other words, there are probably more middle-aged women at any Broadway show than any other demographic group. And yet, as a group, they are avoiding Honeymoon in Vegas more than most other shows. For the reasons repeated so often on this thread and others, most recently by neonlightsxo on this page, that is probably not a coincidence.
A few women sitting near you who enjoyed the show does not make for a predominant trend.
You are probably correct.
The show is good, not great, and I was just thinking of a reason why it was not reaching an audience.

Betsy is the one that chooses to go to Hawaii with Tommy. She basically says "peace out jack." He didn't want her to go. I don't really think thats being used as a prop
