Hey, to those with audition experience . . . an idea if they'd be open to seeing a Tracey who is "ethnic" such as myself? Do you think it would be worth my time? I fit the profile, have training, blah, blah, blah but am unsure if they would even see me . . . any ideas?

Unfortunatly, I think the answer is probably no.
TRACY TURNBLAD: (Starring Role) Female, Caucasian, age 16 - 21 to play 16; Overweight high-school girl, with a pretty face, infectious grin, and indomitable spirit. Must be a “triple-threat” talent: singer/dancer/actress with a powerful, Broadway-caliber singing voice.
However, with that said- everything is worth a shot. Send in a video or go to an open call. You might not get cast for Hairspray, but they cast other things as well. Just get seen.

TORONTO details TBD
I'm told they will be in Toronto on Monday. They may be here all week casting background, extras etc. and have an open call next Saturday, March 25 (but that's not for sure)
Did you say that they would be in Toronto at the end of this month? That's closeby, and I have friends there to crash with(and will be moving there in August) but I have rehearsal on that day . . . Any ideas of other auditions after Easter?

The National Tour Tracy, Keala Settle, is from Hawaii and is sort of ethnic looking. So depending on how ethnic looking you are, it still is possible ... why not try just for the experience and fun of it?
the website says to prepare a certain 8 bars for the audition...
is that just for the callback or...what?
b/c ir ather sing the big belty ending instead of the given 8 bars for the first audition...
what do you think?
If you think you might be able to "pass for causcasion" give it a try (Tracy). Unfortunatly this is one of the few shows that really needs most cast members to be of a certain ethnic group. But it really doesn't hurt to audition anyway, you never know what you might be considered for.
The eight bars you have to sing is from right after the key change, so I think that's the big belty part. If you get called back you have to sing more of the same song.
"If we don't live happily ever after at least we survive until the end of the week!" -Kermit the frog "I need the money... it costs a lot to look this cheap!" -Dolly P. "Oh please, Over at 'Gypsy' Patti LuPone hasn't even alienated her first daughter yet!" Mary Testa in "Xanadu" "...Like a drunk Chita Rivera!" Robin de Jesus in "In the Heights"
"B*tch, I don't know your life." -Xanadu After that if he still doesn't understand why you were uncomfortable and are now infuriated, kick him again but this time with Jazz Hands!!! -KillerTofu
Well, I auditioned last month in Chicago, and didn't get a callback (only 2 Tracys did). I also submitted my headshot and resume to the casting agency via email over a month ago. And today, I had an email from them asking me to send in a tape! So anyone else who sent in their stuff, keep waiting for a reply.
And to those who are going to open calls: you can sing any 8 bars of "Good Morning, Baltimore" that you want to. The selection on the website is just a suggestion.

So, I sent in my thing through snail mail several weeks ago (not a month, though), and maybe it's just because my situation is different (white boy, rather than overweight white girl), but do you think it would hurt (or be a bad impression) to send in an e-mail now?
i absolutely adore your determination volleyballer! you should jsut show up for an open call hehe....they might think it was funny and let you audition. I knwo in toronto they are doing auditions for the chorus....

any idea if they're going to be doing open call auditions for the chorus? anywhere besides Toronto?

Earlier in the thread the casting people said you would be welcome to audition for Extras which will be done in Toronto . I assume that includes Chorus. The casting search tour is only for Tracey, lil Inez and ? etc.is the way I understood it. If any body is going into an audition can you ask them to confirm and stop the confusion? Thanks.

Yeah I'm going to be at the open call in Baltimore. I know someone said that that auditions for extras would be in Toronto, but do you think they'd consider people from other open calls? Cuz I'd really like to be apart of this movie, even as an extra. And I live right in the area, so I'll be around.

I don't think you have to be from Toronto .Earlier in this thread it was mentioned by the casting people in New york that you can come to Toronto and audition for extra. Search aroundFeb8
Marc - a good friend of mine in the LA area emailed his application in but couldn't get to Chicago for the open calls. He did, however, get a call from the casting people and later auditioned in LA. So I guess it wouldn't HURT to email.

I know height was discussed earlier in the board, but I'm 5'10", but otherwise fit the Tracy "look". Do you guys think I'm way to tall for it? Oh well, I'm mostly just going for the experience. I'm so excited about the audition, but I'm going by myself, so I hope I meet some cool people.
I've been watching this board for a while, and was disappointed that I couldn't make it to the open calls in ATL NY or Chicago (I was finishing up my play,Anything Goes) But I am so excited to audtion in Baltimore! I got an email saying to send in a tape, but I figured its better to do it in person.
ThertreGeeke- I'm also on the taller side, but fit the rest of the Tracy "look" too. I just think that these open calls are a great opportunity to get your face out there.
Break a leg everyone sending stuff in, video auditioning, or going to the open calls. I can't wait to see some of you in Baltimore!
oh and also, before this post gets too long,
If I don't get a call back in Baltimore should I still send in the video? Or is that just pushing it too far?

I don't have a lot of experience with this sort of thing, but sending in a tape also just shows that you're determined. I actually don't think thats a bad idea, I may do the same. By the way, CurtainsUP- love your picture with Idina.
