The tickets are sold way past the time cast changes will be known/announced, so even if the interest dips after some of the OBC leave, the amount of people who still never saw the show will take a while to dwindle down to the point where it will be very noticeable. Unless you're really lucky, whether there are 8,000 or 2,000 people entering the lottery, or having to sit in line from 3 a.m. or 6 a.m., it will still be quite some time before it's an easy ticket.
Sharing my experience from today! Walked by around 1 and there were about 25 people there. Including two Same Ole Line Dudes in tiny rain tents. Came back after my show (The Humans) around 4, and there were only 2 people there!!! It was people in the same SOLD tents (unsure if it was the same people from before the matinee). Got in line and shortly after one more girl joined me. We only wanted one each so decided to help each other out. Since both our decisions to join the line were last minute none of us was prepared. She went back to her hotel to get a phone charger. I decided to stay and just let me phone die (writing this on laptop). Around 5 another another couple joined us. Another girl came at like 5.30, she claimed that she'd been in line since 4, just waiting inside the BO, but as no one had held her spot, and I hadn't seen the 1,5 hours I'd been there we all agreed that she should go to the back of the line (she didn't seem too upset). A few more people joined the line the following 50 minutes. And at 6.20 they brought both line sitters plus me and the other girl inside. I got row F center Orch and she got row U center orch. For 2 hours and 20 minutes waiting we were so so happy!!! The rain wasn't so bad either, we moved the line a bit back so we could stand under the awning. So looking forward to seeing the show for the second time.
It's true! I was so surprised when I came out of the matinee today and only saw the Same Ol' Line Dudes. Congrats on your ticket, fyeahmaria!
Has anyone done the cancellation line for one of Javier's shows recently? I'd really love to see him and was wondering if it's any different from when Lin's on. I probably won't be able to do it until the spring, though.
Post show update. At 7.30pm three more people had gotten tickets (3 or 4 tickets total) and at 8.02pm at least three more people got tickets. So assuming the Same Ole people got two tickets each at least 12 tickets were sold for the evening show between 6.20-8.02pm. My seat was brilliant, and the three people who got in at 8.02 were in the row behind me.

I did the cancellation line on Sunday, 2/14 for Javier's matinee performance. I don't think it matters because 1) people are lining up for either matinee (Javier) or evening (Lin) in the same line. 2) a lot of people in the audience were unaware that Javier performs in Sunday matinees, though people who choose to wait in the cancellation line may be more savvy. 3) Javier performs on weekends when more people have the time to wait in line so any reduced preference is balanced out by increased opportunity.
Weekends are the worst/most popular days to wait in line, period.
However, the benefit to a Sunday Javier show is that there could be more cancellation tickets available than other days. Sundays, especially a matinee, may not be as popular with "special/VIP guests" whose seats are usually the ones sold to cancellation. Then again, you never know because Javier may decide to invite his whole family to see his show one Sunday.

I was one of the people who got a ticket at 8:02pm - was offered two but only needed one. Probably the anomaly here, but I joined the line around 6pm on my way home from work when I noticed it was particularly short - the two Same Old Line Dudes in their rain tents, and then about 6-8 people in front of me. The man behind me joined about 10 minutes later, and I think he was the last one in line to get a ticket (he bought the one I didn't take). I got a seat in center orchestra row G and it was definitely worth waiting right up until curtain.
I'm heading to NYC in a couple of weeks and I'm planning on doing the cancellation line when I'm there. If anyone has done the line on a Wednesday recently, what kind of time is it best to get to there? I was thinking around 7am, but I don't know if that would be enough. Also, while I'm asking, what time does the box office actually open? Thanks!
A friend of mine was considering doing cancellations yesterday, but when he saw someone settle down in line at 8pm on Saturday night he gave in and bought tickets instead.

Based upon what I am hearing, 3am if you want to be first in line. 6am if you will be near the front of the line, with a great chance of getting tickets. Anything after 9am, you don't have much of a chance of getting tickets for the matinee, but still have a good chance of getting tickets for the night show.

My personal opinion is that 7am is fine for a Wednesday. I was there a month ago and got there at 8:30am and received tix for the matinee. Most of the comments of 3am, 5am etc are for Thursday - Sun.
I think 7 a.m. on Wednesday is pushing it for the matinee, but is a pretty good bet for the evening. Though it depends on the weather (as you can see from the posts above, when it was raining all day). So if you're coming on a warm sunny day in March or April, it may be harder than a cold rainy day.
"I was there a month ago and got there at 8:30am"
Unfortunately, the popularity for Hamilton is growing rapidly, and as I explained in the FAQ, what was an acceptable line up time a month or even a few weeks ago won't be soon as the weather gets better, and the show gets even more recognition and hype. 7 AM may be a good time to line up for evening-only days, but on Wednesdays there is a matinee and an evening performance.
Hello! I am planning on doing cancellation line next month and was looking for advice for timing. Lots of the messages on here seem to be regarding two show days and weekends, so I was wondering what a Tuesday would look like. I am planning for a 7 pm show on a Tuesday in early April. Better weather and popular vacation time of year may be affecting factors, but would it being a school day and only an evening show change the amount of people too? What time would be best to get there? I was thinking 7 AM, but now I am thinking that is probably too late. Thank you for the help!
" but would it being a school day and only an evening show change the amount of people too?"
In that regard, probably not. You have: College students (so school day doesn't matter), Spring Breaks, warm weather and tourists.
7 am, could work as of now, but personally that would be the very latest I would arrive. That can change in a month. You should check here for anecdotes a day or two before you plan to go.
I'm new here, but got great advice, and wanted to report on my experience yesterday. I work at 50th street, and decided to line up on a Wednesday after work. Yesterday's weather was cold, so I hoped that would improve my chances. I got to the line at around 5:05. Ahead of me was a guy who was there around 2pm, when I went over at lunch to scout the line. After that was a group of maybe 4-6 people who had been there since 2:30, a couple and a father/daughter who got there around 4, and another young woman who got there a few minutes before I did. There were no line sitters! Around 5:45, the first guy got tickets, then the 2:30 group got tickets a little after 6. At 7:10, the couple and father/daughter got tickets. The young woman and I only wanted one each, there was a pair of friends behind us who joined around 5:30, and then additional people, at least 10 who joined the line after 6.
Since I was second at 7:10, and had read about the woman who got a ticket at 8:02 a few posts above, I stayed positive, and sure enough, four of us got tickets at 8, and I ended up in Orchestra Row G on the aisle! The last eight of us were all sitting together in row F & G. The tickets cost $177, and they were fantastic seats! It was a little weird to sit down, and try to turn off my phone and take off my coat as the lights were dimming, but If you are at the front of the line after 7:15, you still have a chance! I think the weather helped me, and also the fact that people who lined up in the morning had gotten into the matinee, nobody stayed for the evening performance. I brought some hot food in a thermos, and that really perked me up around 6:30. I also dressed warmly. Have a plan for dinner! The young woman in front of me had to buy expensive pretzels in the theater at intermission since she hadn't had anything to eat. I'm going to try again with my daughter when she's home from college, she can line up earlier on a Wednesday. Thanks for all the good advice posted here!

Im currently super gutted NY friend and I flew from England to hopefully see the show by joining the cancellation line. I know it's s Saturday and it's our own fault but after reading the stories on here we assumed that getting there before 3am would be OK. My friend is currently 9th in line having gotten there at 2am I can't believe how quickly it has gotten earlier and earlier! We can't decide if we should stay in line or not as that far back doesn't seem likely to get a ticket unless we stay until the evening, but we have tickets for Smokefall for this evening already Hopefully this information can help those who are planning on lining up in the future!
The reason we are doing the cancellation line is because we can't afford resale tickets
Can anyone advise me on what to do - someone ahead of us in the line said their friend would take over from them at 8, but then they just left their chair and didn't even stay for an hour. They were gone 7 hours and their friend has just turned up to sit in the long empty chair. I don't really think this is fair as if it was, everyone could just leave a chair and go back to bed. Does anyone know if the box office are nice enough to police this?

WOW, that's ballsy! Did someone at least say something to the friend who just showed up? Maybe after 3 or 4 hours, someone should have just made the chair disappear. When the friend turned up, you could have said "Chair? WHAT chair?"
Sorry if this has been asked already- but I wanted to find out whether it was necessary to line up at 7am on a Wednesday if I was interested in tickets for the evening performance? Based on some of the accounts, it sounds like joining the line in the afternoon was fine. Does anyone know whether tickets for the evening show could become available in the mornings? Thanks in advance for the advice.
