Well to be fair, for some of these seats it's a lot more than saving $1k. I used a sitter and with the sit fee and the tickets it came to barely over $1k. If I had bought those seats from TM or Stubhub it would have cost anywhere from $5k-$6k. Even if you have that kind of money to burn (not many do) it's hard to justify $6k for a 3 hour musical.

Honestly I feel like people on here are being a little over dramatic. If you don't want to camp out fine but I've been planning this trip since March and I'd rather camp and give my money directly to the theater than a scalper online. I have a four day weekend so I have the time to spare.
If someone arrived at 3 pm yesterday and got in then maybe Mon through Wed was a fluke. Maybe yesterday was a fluke. Can't really predict wth the line.
To each their own.

This seems much more reasonable. So you got there around midnight for tonight's showing and you're number 1?
No my line buddy and I panicked Wed and she got here Wed at 7 lol. I don't know when everyone behind us got here but she mentioned 40 people behind her early this evening and they were mostly all gone by the time I got here.
Now if so many tickets hadn't been released yesterday maybe it would be a different story? Maybe people have gotten scared or turned off by the long hours who knows. But I do know as it stands now if you had gotten here at midnight last night (Thu) you would have been like 8 th or 9 th in line now which is how I think it was like two weeks ago from reading about it on here.
Hopefully this thread doesn't devolve in to a huge fight between sitters and people against sitters. Like I said, I used SOLD and they were awesome. Very friendly and knowledgeable and helpful to everyone around. Most of them stuck around to make sure their clients got in and one guy, might have been the main guy, seemed genuinely happy that I got in and shook my hand when he saw me in line to get in later that night.
I get that people are against sitters for whatever reason, but the fact is, if they aren't breaking the rules there is no reason to get upset. And the theater staff know the sitters and seemingly have good relationships with them. You're not going to get them in trouble.

Good luck gatorgirl2! I hope you get tix for tonight! Wait --- so you're #1 & #2 for tonight (Friday eve) right? Is it still one big line or did you claim the #1 spot for Friday evening? It seems to me RRT has a different policy each day on this. Also, you got there at 7pm on Wednesday? If so, that'll be a 49 hour wait! Wow! Kudos to your line buddy!!!
As for fights happening on the line, it should never be between line sitters and non-line sitters. As we all know, RRT never banned line sitters from the new cancellation line rules (nowhere in the rules does it state line sitting is forbidden.) If RRT changes the policy to 1 ticket per person, then line sitting in any of its forms will be impossible.

Yeah, if the ticket is really 3k nowadays versus standing in line(no sitter) for 2-3 days, I just wouldn't go anymore. It's great but nothing is worth sitting on the street for days. Nope. But to each their own.

Okay so you had a sitter for an extra 24 hours, but when you took over at midnight last night the line had thinned? But there were up to 40 people in line before that? This whole thing is so weird.

Cosigned, friend. Maybe if some of these people worked and made money, instead of living on the street for days on end for a not-cheap ticket to a show (which you've possibly already seen), you'd have the money to just buy a ticket off Ticketmaster.

The cheapest comparable (to line sitting) seats on Ticketmaster resell for next Saturday are $7,534.80. You can buy a decent used car for that. Now tell me how that's a reasonable price and that people should just suck it up and work a little harder and pay the money. If you made $7500 a month you'd be pulling in $90k a year, AFTER taxes. But yeah people, quit being poors.

Over $1k is totally ridiculous for a 2.5hr show. Heck I think the regular $177 is ridiculous for a show.

Well that's an issue for the box office. Two premium seats are $1k. If you think face value is too much, then yeah, any links people are going to are going to seem ridiculous to you.
^Face value for this show is too much and totally ridiculous IMO. Premiums are almost twice as much as most shows. I guess Lin is laughing all the way to the bank though.
I'll wait a few years until the madness to get tickets slows down and maybe see it for myself.

Supposedly the prices are so much because they were trying to cut down on scalpers, but that clearly didn't work and it seems pretty thinly veiled. If you want to cut down on scalpers limit the amount of tickets you can buy, make everything will call and require ID to pick up the tickets.
And the premium seats are much higher than other shows. But for shows like Wicked, the $177 isn't that much more.
^I sit in partial view seats or way up top in that huge barn when I see Wicked. Most I pay with Ticketmaster fees don't even hit $100 so not near the $177(without the Ticketmaster fees) a Hamilton ticket costs.
But like others have said "To each their own".
I'll rush 9 or 10 shows with that same amount that 1 premium ticket to this show costs. Or 5 or 6 shows a regular ticket costs.

Oh please. STFU. You should know well now that shortly before showtime the tickets drop in price drastically. Right NOW they're $7k, but they won't be at 7:55pm.

And if you've been paying attention over the last few weeks you'll have noticed that really isn't true anymore. Most, if not all, tickets are gone long before you get anywhere close to showtime. And the prices aren't dropping that much anymore either. But please keep telling people how they choose to spend their time is stupid. Do you realize how ridiculous you sound telling people to get a job and just pay whatever the cost is? I have a good job, but could still never justify spending thousands on tickets to a musical. If you can, great. No reason to come in here and be a dick about it
If 1/4 of the time/money/effort people put towards seeing the show was put towards volunteering or something like that, imagine how much change you could bring. I can get 12 hours or $1000 but it's now really bordering on mental illness to me. It's a great show but FFS, it's not going to cure cancer or give you the lotto numbers. I almost wish this show never happened. It's like perpetual Black Friday.
This is all very fascinating to me. In all honestly, 10 years ago, I probably would have been gung-ho for doing the Cancellation line (if I were living in NY). Nowadays, I just don't have the patience to do something like that anymore. Of course, I probably also wouldn't have been able to stomach more than 12 total hours, but still. I can't say that I am angry about the line sitters. They're capitalizing on something that people are willing to pay for- unfortunately, just like the online resellers are. If people weren't willing to pay that much, none of these things would work out. With a show like this, the demand exists and the laws aren't in place to keep prices affordable. It's just a perfect storm...
My fingers are crossed that next summer I might be able to see this show for a regular ticket price (can't afford premium / not willing to sacrifice our family budget on account of tickets to a show). At least by then, with a lot of the original cast likely to be gone, maybe it won't be quite so insane. Who can say though...
Anyway.. good luck to all fans trying the line! I seriously do wish you all the best and I hope that you're able to get in and see the show! If you're willing to put in the hours, you deserve to see the show.
I've only ever done cancellation line once for Wicked and I was in it for 30 minutes.
For rush tickets I was there for 5hrs for both Next to Normal and Les Mis(back when you had to wait that long just to get one). I don't think I could do over 24hrs and still be able to function at the show or for a few days after...lol.

Good Morning theater fans! Longtime lurker here...wanted to say that I am upstate (WAY upstate near Lake George) but can be on the train in Albany and down to theater in 5hrs if a buddy is in need! I would love to match up and be your 'plus one' for a show!
Glad to hear the singles are 'hooking up' to save $$$
I haven't seen the show yet, and with current prices online it is impossible! Let me know if there are other singles around! I will be in NYC June 10-13 ad hoped to find another single in line for Fri June 10th show. I get to town around 2pm.
