Listen, we all have our opinions about people. But the level of immaturity in some reasonings for dislike is disrespectful to the hard work and talent many of these performers (note not necessarily all) have shared with audiences for years.
Let me start off by syaing that the performers I do not like are the ones who are lazy and consistently bring nothing new from role to role.
Let me continue by stating that every actor brings pieces of themselves to a role.
Performers such as Raul Esparza, Patti LuPone, and Bernadette Peters are not the greatest singers of our time. But what sets them apart from many is their drive to tell stories. They give 110% at arguably each and every one of their performances. They serve their audiences and create dynamic, thrilling performances that are remembered for years. Acting drives everything.
How to properly use its/it's:
Its is the possessive. It's is the contraction for it is...
OMG, PJ! Quit trying to convince people to "get" Merman. Some of us just don't like her voice, okay?
Salve, Regina, Mater misericordiae
Vita, dulcedo, et spes nostra
Salve, Salve Regina
Ad te clamamus exsules filii Eva
Ad te suspiramus, gementes et flentes
O clemens O pia
ThankstoPhantom - Some of us don't have the luxury to see them in person and our only "Broadway experience" is the cast recording and that is what I am basing my opinions off of (except for Sutton, whom I saw in person)

Lizzie, I think you and I share the same taste. We both like Eric Kunze and not Patti LuPone. Saw Patti in the tour with Mandy Patinkin and she sounded extremely nasally. After awhile that got really annoying.
Mandy Patinkin. LOVE him as an actor. I don't get his singing.
I may get a lecture on his resume or entire pedigree, but Colm Wilkinson, though a great singer, has very annoying diction to me. It's like Sean Connery as Valjean. That very proper, closed jaw sounding enunciation irritates the hell out of me.
Granted my opinions are based on different things, few are ones based on live performances, as I'm not one who just sees Broadway shows in my spare time. I'm not an NYC brat. Nor one with oh so much experience in the theatre that I can write the book.
And of course Adam Lambert, but we all know how I feel about that screechy tranny mess. Still don't get him. Not too fond of Constantine Maroulis, either. I don't get him. Never got Frenchie Davis either. But enough of reality rejects.
I love Ethel Merman, that clip of her singing to Fozzie was so sweet. And Patti doesn't annoy me, except when she tries an accent. She's grown on me, though.
I don't care for her Fantine, or Mrs. Lovett in the 2005 Revival of Sweeney Todd (I prefer her 2001 concert performance). But since it's an either/or thing, love her or hate her, I love her.
I also don't get Marty Thomas. Or Nick Adams. Or Craig Bierko.
And I don't get Sarah Brightman, when she's singing musical theatre music. I do love "Harem" though.
I don't WANT to live in what they call "a certain way." In the first place I'd be no good at it and besides that I don't want to be identified with any one class of people. I want to live every whichway, among all kinds---and know them---and understand them---and love them---THAT's what I want! - Philip Barry (Holiday)
Mandy Patinkin. His lower range is really good but he goes into falsetto WAY too much and it is horrendous.
That is exactly how I feel. And the sort of odd nasality of his voice, both tone and pronunciation... there are moments of his singing that I think are great, and moments that really get on my nerves.
In my pants, she has burst like the music of angels, the light of the sun! --Marius Pantsmercy
Angela Lansbury - decent actress, although similar in everything she does. Terrible singer - her voice is not nice to listen to, at all. Very, very, VERY overrated performer.
Kristin Chenoweth - Her voice just irritates the hell out of me. I don't mind her singing voice though.
Lea Michelle
Nick Adams
Idina Menzel - I saw her in London's Wicked and she yelled and screamed her way through the entire show.
"You drank a charm to kill John Proctor's wife! You drank a charm to kill Goody Proctor!" - Betty Parris to Abigail Williams in Arthur Miller's The Crucible
I can't hardly stand listening to Mandy Patinkin in general. But what really gets me is him singing "Soon its Gonna Rain" from the Fantasticks with Kristin Chenoweth. I want to tear my eyes out!
Adam Pascal also really doesn't do it for me. Everytime I listen to Aida or Rent, I'm just don't get him. But when I saw him live in Rent I liked him alot more. Maybe he just has one of those voices that doesn't record well.
Any of the boys from Billy Elliot. Great phenominal dancers. However, very mediocre actors and singers with obvious pitch difficulties probably due to impending puberty. They have a future for dance only.
What's with all the Patti hating??? I think she is an amazing performer with such a powerful voice. She was the BEST part of Gypsy for me. Her performance was thrilling! Oh well... to each his own I guess.
