Any of the people on my "Favorite Performers" list. But I would rather just see them sit there than read the phone book.

One time, Patti LuPone punched me in the face...

It was awesome.

Raúl Esparza. And I'd listen to Brian Stokes Mitchell sing the phone book.

And he's not a stage actor, but just the same: James Spader.

Brian d'Arcy James. God I just love his voice. Not just singing, speaking too.

Christine Ebersole. I see her making it completely hilarious. If they were still alive, I could also see Myrna Loy and William Powell do an awesome interpretation of the phone book. Hell, I'd pay more than full price for that.

Where i come from, there actually are people who will pay full price tickets to watch no one in particular just sit there and read out of a phone book. It's called postdramatic theatre. Believe it or not, I've seen people completely entranced and fascinated by this.

If I was to do so, I would pay to see Meryl Streep reading out of the phone book. No idea why, but the woman fascinates me.

I'd rather cast Nathan Lane in the title role in Lestat.

Oooo, that makes 2 of us. (Although, I still stand by wanting Stokes to read romance novels on tape)

I wouldn't pay to see an actor doing it in their own way.

I would love to see someone read the phonebook in character. I'd love to see Tevye read the phonebook...

There are also a few actors I would pay to see read the phonebook then just stare at their faces the entire time... Aaron Lazar comes to mind here.

Vanessa Redgrave is a goddess.
Sir Ian McKellan. He's doing King Lear this year in Minneapolis
Barbara Cook. She'd sing it delightfully.
Lynn Redgrave. I've been a fan since I saw Georgy Girl.
Patrick Stewart. What a voice! He was brilliant at the Guthrie in Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?
Judi Dench. After her performance in Iris, she can do anything.

and the late, but never forgotten:

Richard Burton
Jessica Tandy
Sylvia Sidney
Cary Grant

No one living. They'd have to be dead and back for a command performance.

Some smart producer is now going to mount an evening of revolving celebs from this thread reading the phone book, saving tons of money/royalties in the process.

Morgan Freeman,
Sidney Poitier.

The rain we knew is a thing of the past -
deep-delving, dark, deliberate you would say
browsing on spire and bogland; but today
our sky-blue slates are steaming in the sun,
our yachts tinkling and dancing in the bay
like racehorses. We contemplate at last
shining windows, a future forbidden to no one.

Rathnait62 - Would you not have to pay the people whose information is read/sung? Maybe to be even more cost-effective they could have each performer one letter to make maybe 3 a night.

And I'd love to see some duets of anonymous classifieds.
