I completely agree about Tony, that was incredibly lazy, just giving The Band's Visit every award. He can't sing, and sings for under a minute. I think they just like giving celebrities Tonys. He was very hot at the moment due to Maisel, but it was not deserved in any sense. Joshua deserved the win, as problematic as his show was, he gave everything he had to that role and his singing was next level.
This year, every performance was incredibly strong. Santino is brilliant in the part, but every man nominated this year was/is as well.

Yeah, I don't know how they gave Shalhoub that Tony for "Best Male Singer with the biggest acting role." Oh wait, he actually won the Tony for Best Performance By A Leading Actor in a Musical. Maybe that explains it. Or maybe they just did it cause he's named Tony and they though it would make it easier for the engraver to remember who won or maybe more Tony voters are huge fans of "Wings" than we thought or maybe...
Sorry your fave didn't win. Dems da breaks.

Saw it yesterday- ti is a musical comedy- and a fabulous one. I thought it was one of the more entertaining shows I have seen these last few years- I can be very critical of shows- but I thought the storyline, the music, the acting and the choreography- all of it- excellent. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to see an exceptional musical comedy.

Posted: 10/24/19 at 10:43pmJust saw the show. It’s hysterically funny. Haven’t laughed that much at a show in a long time. The performances were solid across the board. The problem is the score isn’t strong. The songs don’t do justice to the smart writing. But still, a very fun show and I would definitely recommend it.

That comment doesn't even make any sense. I said Tony voters. I didn't say you. Unless you're trying to tell us you're a Tony Voter. Now that would really be lolzzzzzzzzzzz.

I saw this last weekend with Jeff Kready as Michael/Dorothy and enjoyed it more than I expected. I don't think changing it to a Broadway musical really works, and the on-stage denouement really left me feeling "blah", but the last scene redeemed it a bit for me.

I thought the music was fine. Nothing out of this world, but when I'm bored I'll totally listen to it.

I am SUPER liberal - probably one of the most liberal people in the world - and out of context this musical seems AWFUL but in context of the show, (as a ciswoman), I found it kind of empowering. I just saw it a few weeks ago, so maybe they changed some.

It is wild to me that Tootsie is somehow a divisive show on here.

It's been so long since I've seen the movie, but I thought there was a reference to how Dorothy liked to do her own makeup in private (thereby exposing herself to fewer people). But if you're in a musical, often changing clothes throughout a show, it seems like that kind of deception would be tougher to hide."
Correct. Michael tells his friend (the Bill Murray character) that Dorothy called the studio and said she had to do her own makeup due to an allergy.

I completely agree. It's a funny show, a good night out. Everyone seemed to be laughing around me, and just enjoying their evening. I do think that people that were upset by it initially have never/will never see it.

I also fine the costumes to be great mainly because of how fast Santino can switch from Dorothy to Michael. Not only in looks, but makeup as well. Or it at least seemed like he had makeup on and I was in the 6th row. Really incredible how fast they have to nail that every night. Also speaks to how much work Santino puts into his performance. Pretty demanding role he made look completely natural.

I was amazed too. Even though he never removes the shapewear, the way he seamlessly changes from jeans/hoodie to dress, his hair to the wig, male makeup to female is incredible. The thing I noticed the most is that Dorothy always has red nails, and Michael obviously doesn't. It's crazy how fast the people behind the scenes are working every night. Loved this show.

I also find myself looking at the actors nails. Whenever they have nails that are painted and then have to be in another scene where they're not, it astounds me how fast they can change that. I can not for the life of me remember which show it was, but in one scene an actor had polish on their nails, ten seconds off-stage, then they reappear with the polish gone and I was amazed.

So again, I said NOTHING offensive, AT ALL, and my post get's poofed, even though it broke no rules.
Sigh.

Jarethan,
Yes, women refer to them as press on nails. I think most people are aware that he doesn't have a manicure done every 15 minutes
What I (and Mike perhaps) were referring to was how fast and seamless everything is, all the way down to Dorothy's nails.

Whether they painted on, slapped on, or a mask, its all done incredibly seamlessly and quickly to make Dorothy incredibly well put together. Top end Broadway stuff right here.
