"there is a group of Equity members, though, who have decided to donate their performance pay for Sunday's GOP show to the Kerry campaign!"
That is perfect.
VOTE KERRY/EDWARDS 2004
David walked into the valley
With a stone clutched in his hand
He was only a boy
But he knew someone must take a stand
There will always be a valley
Always mountains one must scale
There will always be perilous waters
Which someone must sail

So the GOP is going to matinees. While I understand the reasoning for this in terms of schedules, I still find it funny.
What's the problem? Can't stay out late enough for the evening show?
I DO think the actors should work. It is really unprofessional to dictate that the audience be of an acceptable mix to you before you go on stage...and I'm sure there are right wing republicans in the audience EVERY night...so suck it up and go on and perform and THEN either protest or donate money to others to achieve your goals.
I think the actors have a right to protest by not going to work. I know in my line of work there are days that the students/faculty take off to protest things being done.
I am glad that some actors have decided to donte to the kerry/edwards fund!

yep--the show goes on, folks, no matter what! and the real reason they're all going to matinees is to free up their evenings so the republican guys can either get hookers or go to gay bars....not that they endorse those things...but there will be alot more clear heels walking around Port Authority this week!
Well I think that Equity should have chosen what shows they see. Like Frogs, and Caroline or Change, Rent, Avenue Q. Hey politicians should shows that deal with diversity, political issues, and more.
The convention is good for the city economically. Shows are closing and the traditional summer season is over. The should perform their butts off and thank God for the job.
Too many actors have trouble keeping work, too much talent is waiting tables and struggling.
We should pray for a Republican convention every week.
Who would even think not to perform????????
They/we are professionals and politics has nothing to do with it.
so apparently the GOP has "approved" certain shows for the sensitive eyes and ears of its delegates. we can pretty much figure out why certain ones weren't chosen, but does anyone know if any official reasons were given for the choices? just curious to hear how politicos rate their musicals.

mule The republican convention is actually not good for the city. The convention is causing the city to loose money because of the cost of the increase in police force as well as the diminished number of tourist.
As for why the actors should or should not take off, that is up to the individual actor. Republicans traditionally do not support the arts therefore many people feel it is up to those in the arts to protest and protect what they believe in.
I would never ask someone to protest something they do not feel strongely about, but those politically active actors should protest however they feel is proper. If they decide that taking the day off is how they want to protest as American's they have the right to use their sick day (or whatever) on that day.
