Is it appropriate for a 16 yr old to go see cabaret?

I'd certainly say so. I fell in love with the show when I was thirteen. There's certainly quite a bit of risque material, but I'd imagine most 16-year-olds are able to handle that fine enough.

For sure it is appropriate for a sixteen year old to see Cabaret. .I have a hard time fathoming why it would not be. Age sixteen is not a little kid. My daughter played a Kit Kat Girl in Cabaret when she was 12 years old in a high school production and again at age 17 in a professional production. If she was IN it at those ages, surely someone who is sixteen can SEE it. When my kids were growing up, they saw all sorts of musicals (and performed in numerous ones too). When my kids were in elementary school, they were obsessed with RENT!

This upcoming Broadway production will be quite racy. I saw it when I was sixteen, but it really depends on the person.

Yes. High School and up, without a doubt. Mature themes, indeed -- but handled in ways that SHOULD make you think.

Your 16-year old hears much worse language and stories of much worse behavior on the school playground than he/she will at a performance of CABARET.

I think you want to talk about it with the 16 year old - just to bring up some of the heavier themes with regards to war, prejudice, morals.. and then to mention that there will be racy parts. Most 16 year-olds are fine with what they will see - but there is sometimes the embarrassment element of seeing it with a parent, aunt, or other adult. By showing that you are ok with more "adultness" the show, I think it will increase the enjoyment for both of you and eliminate any possible awkwardness.
But yes, I fell in love with Cabaret when I was a teenager...and it's a great show.

Absolutely. This is the type of theatre that young audiences SHOULD be seeing. Moving, beautiful, and extremely thought provoking.

Although it has a lot of mature subject matter a 16 year old today can certainly handle it.

Yes. It's a history lesson, if anything. But the material is perfecting suitable for a teenager with an interest in theater. This production will probably seem tame compared to a staging done in England a few years back, unless they rev up the "shock" value more this time. I don't think they will.

While of course the film is different, I watched it incessantly at that age - though my mother probably didn't approve.
I think unless you have the tightest of the tightest of parental locks on your internet, and your child is a boy of that age, gay or straight, they are probably already watching pretty disturbing stuff online. I put a pic of a gay porn star as my profile pic as a joke, but in all seriousness kids today can see some pretty violent and harmful stuff quite easily. Seeing Cabaret might be beneficial compared to that crap.

Depends on the 16-year-old, their upbringing, etc., but generally I'd say yes. If it's your 16-year-old, go ahead. If it's someone else's, think about their background.

I'd say that if you're asking, then you're not really inclined to want to bring a/the 16 year old in question and, for that reason alone, you probably shouldn't, even though I find it wholly appropriate for any 16 year old I know.
