Well to paraphrase Gia Gunn, “what he wants do is not necessarily what he’s gonna do”

His concern about safety is valid (which the sweaty one has also been yelling about) but this production becomes about 75% less interesting without the balcony scene outside. They might as well not move it if they can't adequately do the balcony in New York. (It's also a massive sales/marketing benefit.)
I don't recall this concern surrounding Tom Francis's stroll - but Tom's also not a cultural lightning rod.

Genuine question: can’t they put her behind a bulletproof barrier of some kind like a modern politician? The sound is live but simplified and may still be cool enough to become a marketing event. (Though likely the detail of how it is different in NYc and what that says about the US would be noted every time.)

Tom also didn't stand still in one place for 6 minutes

The reality tho is that... what is even the point of bringing this if they can't make the selling point come across effectively? It's going to cost far more to produce here and will likely still close at the loss. It doesn't... need to come here?

I understand why some people say 'why bother?' if you can't do the outdoor balcony scene but for me the selling point is Rachel. I just want to see Rachel do this and I'm okay if there is no balcony.
As far as does it "need" to open here, no, but then nothing needs to open here.

After Cabaret and Sunset I think NYC audiences have caught on to the “Emperor’s New Clothes-ness” of these London productions, and producers know that. It would be a money losing proposition but if people want to set cash ablaze and invest, sure…!

Would she even be willing to commit to an extended run of 9 months to a year? This isn't a play that could ever hope to recoup in a few months.

“It doesn’t need to go to Broadway.” “Should it come to Broadway?” “It shouldn’t go to Broadway.”
One of my least favorite arguments on this board. Nothing needs to be on Broadway. There’s no “does this need to be on Broadway” magic eight ball. A show either raises the money to get to Broadway or it doesn’t. There is literally no other journey it needs to go on. It’s not a metaphysical phenomenon. It’s just producers making decisions.

This is terrible. I wonder when bulletproof glass will be placed in front of the stage in theatres too. Things are really getting out of hand in modern "civilization". Even though I think the lead actress would be quite safe considering her political convictions. I truly wonder how we can turn this climate around and if we will ever get back to a high trust society with class, where people can preach or perform in public without needing extreme safety measures.
Personally, I have my doubts whether America can still be saved. Especially NYC. Let's cherish, love and protect the places in the world that are still safe.
On another note, about the London cast recording, last year 10 tracks were dropped and they said that the rest would be released around November. What happened to those other tracks like "Good night and thank you", etc?

I'd disagree to some extent. I'm thinking particularly of an off-Broadway show a friend helped compose and appered in, that got a great response in a little theater but just wasn't ever right for Broadway (he says so himself), yet would up there and flopped.
I'd even use Rocky Horror as an example, since it was a hit on the King's Road (they intentionally didn't move it to the West End--although in, like, the last year of the original 5 year run, it was finally put there) and around the world but orginally flopped on Broadway because it really isn't a "Broadway" kinda show. Yes, we are now experiencing the second successful Broadway revival, but in the last-go wrong, a lot of the intentionally tacky qualities were lost, and I think that may prove to be the case for this revival, too.
Litttle Shop is another show that's really an off-Broadway show. It only really works in a theater small enough so that the final Audrey II seems to tower over the audience. Wouldn't want to see Dames at Sea on Broadway, either.
There are shows that rightly belong off-Broadway, maybe even rightly off-off-Broadway. It isn't metaphysical, but there is a "feel" shows have, that are or are not best served by a Broadway production.
Not saying the Jamie Lloyd production should be included in the "doesn't belong on Broadway" category, but I don't think such questions are moot. And the fact that people with the money may force a move doesn't always mean the move is smart.
