"If you're a writer or a painter, you write or paint whenever you want to. But we have to do this task at a precise moment. At three minutes past eight, the curtain goes up, and you've got to pretend to believe, because no one else will believe you unless you believe it yourself. A great deal of our work is simply making ourselves dream. That is the task. At three minutes past eight,YOU MUST DREAM."
Just the title of this thread is enough to make me shake my head while trying not to vomit. J.Lo is an extremely weak singer and a diva in all of the negative connotations of the word. I'd prefer she stay as far from Broadway as possible.
"There was this one time an alarm went off - it was in the middle of '24.' That's just wrong. Everyone knows everyone was watching '24' at that time."
--NYU student quoted in the Washington Square News about students ignoring the frequent fire alarms in dorms
I actually can ALMOST see this. Of all the pop-stars she is probably the clostest thing to a triple threat & the most determined & hard-working... so she might just be able to pull this off.
However... I'm one of those 'theater snobs' who really doesn't like pop stars invading broadway (unless they're friggen incredible). J-Lo's great but I'm not even sure if she can hit the notes in Out Tonight, let alone while dancing, kicking & swinging around the set. Since I don't think she could handle the singing & I'd rather not have a pop-star I'm gonna go with "NO"
But I would actually really like to see her perform 'Out Tonight', even if she lip-synced it. Maybe in a benefit concert or something*
Some of you need to give me a break. Some are making it sound like Mimi is some kind of role that holds a huge prestige in the Broadway community - I don't think so.
Comparing Jenny to William Hung is pretty ridiculous. I firmly believe she can hold a tune, and I have heard her sing live.
No one can take away the fact that she can DANCE her ass off.
Well she better keep dancing if she wants that ass off.

"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Sure, she can dance, but after the horror that was hers and her hubby's performance at the Grammy's last year, no way would I want to see her on a Broadway stage. It sounded like she was struggling to stay in tune. As far as her acting goes: can we say "Gigli"? eww... If she ever took the part of Mimi, it would be what I see as "stunt casting". I hate when a Broadway show does that... I prefer paying to see someone that can actually sing and act, not just because they are "famous". There are so many highly talented people trying to get their spot on Broadway... having to take a backseat to a big name lacking in talent, shouldn't happen, IMO.
I've come this far with the truth of the heart. Deep down inside I think we're all the same. Try not to judge and never shame... I do believe people are good... they just want hope and respect... to be understood ~Melissa Etheridge
The only good that could come out of J.o as Mimi would be that the line "They Say that I have the best ass below 14th street..." would actually be true.
Jennifor Lopez can dance, I'll give her that, I don't think she has much range as a film actress, let alone on the stage. She's also a very bad live singer. The girl can entertain but she's not cut out for it.
Oh yea aside from all that I can't stand her but that's a whole other story.
"I love America more than any other country in the world, and exactly for this reason, I insist on the right to criticize her perpetually."

I believe there are triple threats in the Hollywood and Music industry. Jenny might not be one.
But I know the late Aaliyah was indeed one. She had a fabulous well trained singing voice. She trained in acting, and was a well trained dancer. She showed GREAT acting potential in ROMEO MUST DIE and QUEEN OF THE DAMNED. By the time she died she had 7-8 movie deals in the works. Which is a shame. I believe she would've been on Broadway eventually. She was VERY close to landing the role of Aida, but Headley beat her for the role, I believe they felt Heather's overall look was better for the character.
Such a shame we lost such a talent, who would've showed off she was a triple threat on Broadway eventually.
as much as i respect ur opinion Jay...i must say Aaliyah as Aida???

If she wanted to play the role and committed to doing it I wouldn't really have a problem with it, but she's not exactly the kind of actress who seems to take a lot of chances with her choices.
"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter
she could have done the movie version but on broadway...i think she'll have a hard time singing live. she's more of a recording artist. i love jlo though...
J Lo as Mimi?! What next? Christina Aguilera as Maureen??? (not a bad thought actually!) and Beyonce as Joanne?! ... I mean... Britney as Maureen with... Missy Elliot as Joanne?????
no.
