I can't help but think that 'Jenny from the Block' would make a fantastic Mimi. She can certainly dance, can sing reasonably well and like her character is from the Bronx. I know the thought of this will make many people shudder, especially those theatre snobs who believe that pop artists should never grace the stage. However, what these people fail to realise is that the some of the greatest Broadway stars begun their career as pop singers, Lea Salonga, Idina Menzel, Sir Elton John (who has penned a few Broadway musicals) etc.
I just think she's too old for 19
(and here come the Daphne slammers...)

I am aware of that. But, she could have done it 5-10 years ago. I'm not just talking about the film version. I'm talking about the stage version as well. Plus, she deffo don't look her age. If Daphne could get away with it, Jenny could.
I don't think age is the problem, I just honestly don't think she could pull it off. I remember seeing her perform a couple of times on TV, and she was either lipsyncing, or she was singing a very very easy song and stuggling with pitch and breath throughout the entire performance. She'd really have to work on her vocals to be able to sing that role.
Yeah true...But vocal wise she'd be great if the character of Mimi was just a little older she could definetly pull it off! Imagine her singing out tonight that'd be awesome

Angelbabe that was what put the thought in my head. She would sing and dance the hell out of that song.
BroadwayGirl107 - to be fair, they cast Scary Spice in the role. She has even less of a singing voice than Jennifer Lopez
I wouldn't know; I can't ever remember hearing Scary Spice sing live. I'm simply judging on the live singing I've heard Lopez do. And judging from that, I can't see her pulling it off if she could barely pull off a simple ballad.
I mean, would they cast her? Maybe. But that doesn't mean I think she'd do a good job. I happen to disagree with plenty of casting they do over at Rent.

Wow. I can't believe this is even being discussed!
hmmmm...... i dunno....... i didn't see scary spice, but heard some ok things about her. I personally think they shouldn't give the role to her just cuz she's a big name, when loads of struggling actresses in ny could do a better job.
Even tho Jennifer is in her 30's i think she looks like she is in her 20's...and i can totally see her in it....her voice would have been weak probably...but Rosario is not a singer either. Jen is a great dancer. She would have either make people not wanna see RENT or maybe she would have brought a lot of people to see the film...who knows?

At this point in time with the success of the film bringing in sales for the show its very unlikely they need a "name" in the cast.
I've seen her live in concert...less than stellar. Rosario can do a better job then her.
And does anyone thing miss Lopez can belt Out Tonight LIVE for 8 shows a week?
oh no way!!! Jen on Broadway no way...but with the movie and good editing...maybe. I think Rosario was probably better ...I do think Jen is a better dancer though.
She would definately be the only actress to ever bring truth to the "They say I have the best ass below 14th Street" line. lol
Personally, I think she's a great actress - and she can obviously dance her ass off.
Singing, well she can carry a tune. She isn't spectacular, but she CAN sing live. When did her TV concert a few years ago, she sang her ballads live, and I really think she did a fine job. I think she was quite frightened at last years Grammys with her husband, but she pulled it off.
Mimi might not be the best fit for her. I can easily see her as Velma Kelly, Rosie in Birdie, Anita in WSS, and I'm sure there is more. There have ALWAYS been roles for actresses who don't have great voices. Just look at Brooke Shields - I'm sure Jenny can easily outsing Shields, but Shields does a fine job on Broadway with her limited vocal ability.

What has today's world come to? *headdesk*
Just... flat out NO.
I quote Whitney Houston when I say, "HELL TO THE NO!"
They say that she has the best, err...biggest...ass below 14th Street.
I think not.
Also...she's FORTY, but she's old for her age.
Umm no thanx Lopy!
