Everyone else tries hard (part of the problem - it doesn't come as naturally) but they don't get the laughs. To Ms. Streisand, that stuff came so naturally and, of course, it was specifically tailored to exactly what came naturally to her."
I totally agree with bk. That word "star" gets thrown a lot these days. She is lovely in this clip. She is also lovely in the theater. But being one that has already seen her in it; I can say that you are all over praising for whatever reason...

Can you point out to me these "demands" for laughs, because I don't see them. If that's being lobbed at me, what I said is very simple and easy to understand: No one that I've seen who's either played the role or done the song outside the show has ever gotten the laughs that Streisand got. And I saw the film multiple times during its original roadshow engagement and she got huge laughs, not little chuckles, all during the first part of the song. Every single time I saw it. I still laugh when I watch the film. It's only in the first section of the song and the song was built for Streisand's very special and specific kind of comedy and she delivered it. I'm not demanding laughs, I'm pointing out that there simply aren't any. And we know there can be.

Look, I saw the show with Beanie and wanted her to succeed so badly... but she didn't have the voice and she was out of her league. And the production around her ...is...as some have said and I agree "chintzy." It needs a star turn to carry this lump. So I decided to see it again with Julie and her vocals are good. And she's perfectly fine. Transformative? No way. I'm seen transformative she's nowhere near the top 50. Julie needs to run with this gift as long as she can because this is just that...a "gift" for her. Is she a leading lady? Not in my humble opinion. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm probably not. And now Julie's friends and family are mad and lots of angry "you don't know what you're talking about" replies will follow. And that's fine. Show her how much you love her. But you know I'm right. And we know why you started this thread. Again that's all fine. It doesn't change the fact that she's not a lead. You're either born with it or you're not. It's elan. Julie has talent - she's not a star. They were lucky to have her to bridge to the next lead comes in. Let's hope she pulls it off. We won't know until we see it and I'll be there on Saturday night to see if she can do it. And then I'm done giving this substandard production any more money. Let's at least hope they fix those ugly costumes."
Exactly. She is giving a perfectly acceptableunderstudyperformance. This is notgoing to be a career making "Shirley MacLaine/Laine Kazan" moment -- she's much more in the Nancy Hess/Linda Muggleston "professional understudy" realm. The unbridled worship that she is getting on social media is waaaaayy over the top --- mostly from young wannabees who now have it in their brains that if Julie B can star on Broadway, then I CAN DO IT TOO!"
The non sequitur conjecture you are making sounds like you are probably projecting too much.

You are and you're also an extremely mean-spirited person. You offer nothing that is remotely constructive in the way of criticism.
Just got a TDF ticket for Wednesday. Saw the prior star but decided to take another look at an affordable price. This production and its cast-specific iterations will be discussed for years.

Let's use a code word. If I think I've come across you I'll say "pudding" and then you can say "pudding" so we know who we're talking to.

PUDDING!
If you feel awkward just blurting out the word "pudding", just start to sing and work "pudding" into the song title. You could sing "Don't Rain on my Pudding" or "The Pudding that Makes Me Dance" or "I'm the Greatest Pudding" or "If a Girl isn't Pudding"
I'll get the message

Julie is out for the 2:00 PM matinee today. She says she's dealing with a small injury and has to go to physical therapy for it. She'll be back in tonight.
Ephie goes on for Fanny!
Benko out. Ephie was terrific.

Thought the first act was sensational. The 2nd act is still the same mess it was in 1964
Dollypop is correct. Even a good singer can’t make the soapy bathos of act two persuasive drama. And please fix “Music That Makes Me Dance,” someone. Anyone. It’s a pastiche performance song, not an oblique rumination in an expressionistic window with cheesy reverb. All three current and future Fannys deserve a chance to put it over as torch.

Agreed. And, as I recall. The song ended rather awkwardly.

It's a safe bet that the reverb in "The Music That Makes Me Dance" was used to mask the vocal inadequacies of a previous Fanny.
