Assumed Gracie Lawrence was sticking with this for her Broadway debut, but I just got an email saying that her band has a concert the second night of previews. Guess she’s out. I posted on the Chess thread that I think Lea Michele might be doing this one bc their Instagram page follows her, but who knows?!
I continue to get ads on social media saying there are $99 tickets, but when I click on the Buy Tickets button that takes me to Telecharge, I can't find $99 tickets on any date. Is anyone else having that problem?
On Telecharge the $99 tickets are priced as $115.50 (includes taxes/fees.) I only see them available for a few Wednesday evenings and Wednesday matinees.
Gracie still may be involved and joining during previews. She was photographed with Groff on the red carpet at the Gypsy opening, was at the ‘All In’ opening, and seems involved with the cast on social media.

Jonathan Groff will be so much better."
Spacey was just too old. He was already 40 and older than Bobby when he died when he did the part although he did resemble him physically and he sounded just like Bobby when he sang. I like his renditions of the songs, more so than Groff's (lots of them on YouTube) who doesn't sound anything like Darin. The film (Beyond the Sea) was okay - wish he had done it 10 years earlier when he was better suited to the role.

Rob Ashford’s choreography for the few lavish musical numbers was fantastic, most notably this one at the end of the film when Bobby dances with his younger self. I can watch it on a loop for hours:
My only problem with the film, which I liked very much, was Spacey was just too old. Most obvious in the scenes with Kate Bosworth. As you said, vocally he was spot on and I still enjoy his rendition of Once Upon a Time.

Lots of understudies for Sandra and Connie, but no principals yet based on this link."
that's right missed the u/s....hmmm Lea as Sandra?"
No. For starters, she's 38 and Sandra was 18 to 30 when with Bobby (he died when he was 37). I can see how they started her out as around 18 with FG, but she aged into her 30s. Also, Sandra didn't sing. If they were going to cast Lea, it would be as Connie Francis IMO. Still too old, but I could see her in that role, both. Sandra was very, very vulnerable and fragile, not qualities I would associate with Lea.
Debating whether I should buy one of the few remaining $110 tickets in the last row, wait for a code or box office opening 🤔 it seems like the show is selling very well...
If you have the cash now and can afford it, I would. I bought a $115 ($99 plus fees) ticket later in its run. I plan to do rush/sro/lottery and if I manage to get a ticket, then I’ll just sell that $115 ticket on Theatr app.

As said in the Chess thread, coming off the success of FG why on earth would Lea give up a vocally challenging LEAD role like Florence to pay 2nd or 3rd fiddle to Jonathan in a jukebox musical where she wouldn't get that much to do in comparison to a lead role in a musically that would challenge her vocally? if Jon wasn't her bestie nobody would even be suggesting this.
Character breakdown for Sandra and Connie. If Lea was 5 to 10 years younger and not coming off the success of FG maybe she'd play Connie but again, just how much does Connie get to do in the show? I just don't see it happening and it would, in my opinion be a very dumb career move, especially by someone who has suggested in the past she's not a big fan of jukebox style musicals. This is not the sort of role you take coming of a huge success in a lead role, especially when the producers of Chess have been holding the show for a year for her while she had her daughter.
Also, with previews less than 3 months away wouldn't you be promoting the fact that Lea was in your show to, you know, sell tickets!!!!
SANDRA DEE/AS CAST – (Female, 20s-Early 30s, White, 5’7 and under) Married to Bobby. All-American Sweetheart. Attractive, charming, innocent, blonde, bubble gum, but can eventually take us to a darker place. Specifically seeking performers 5’7 and under.
CONNIE FRANCIS/AS CAST – (Female, 20s-Early 30s, White, 5’7 and under) An actress and singer. Bobby started by writing her music, but they become romantically involved. Very direct. A bit of grit and sass. New Jersey Girl. Brunette. Specifically seeking performers 5’7 and under.

This wouldn't be Gracie Lawrence's debut. She was in the David Cromer production of Brighton Beach Memoirs as Laurie Morton back in 2009. It may have only been 9 performances, but those were 9 performances on Broadway.
Didn’t say it was happening, just said it made me wonder. But someone above mentioned that if you had Lea, you’d use her to sell tickets. That’s why I think this whole business of not announcing those two actresses is weird. If they’re names, why not announce them to help sell tickets? If they’re not names, what’s the holdup?
It’s turned out to be a longer-than-expected wait for Erika’s return to Broadway. Remember that right after she concluded her run in MEAN GIRLS, she had been announced for FLYING OVER SUNSET, which was set to begin previews the day Broadway shut down, and she didn’t return when it finally started up.
Who got to see Gracie in that short-lived BRIGHTON BEACH MEMOIRS revival?

Gracie Lawrence as in the girl from that band Lawrence? (If so, she's a hoot & got quite the voice. Saw Lawrence opening for The Rolling Stones in May.)

These roles could not have been cast any more perfectly
