Love Kelli, but I'm just not a fan of the show. I saw the 99 revival and I loved the cast, but the show and production were very "meh". Brush Up Your Shakespeare was the highlight.

You need a good Fred to get you through the show-within-the-show scenes. If he's boring, they're impossible to sit through.
Also, good supporting cast members. I can hardly wait for the announcement of the cast, but for me, Kelli isn't enough for me to want to get a ticket to this.

KISS ME KATE is one of my least favorite musicals. I actually kinda hate it. That song "Always True to You" has about 5 notes in it and always makes me want to slit my wrists. I have the wounds to show from this and the Pineapple Song from Cabaret. As for Kelli, she's a conventional, dare I say boring, choice for this role. But in fairness, Kathryn Grayson is no better in the film. It needs a natural comedian with some edge, which Kelli is neither. (Think more of a Betty Hutton-type. For those who go "who?" look her up). Sorry, I know Kelli is sacred to this board but she, like the Betsy Wolfes and Erin Davies of the world are from the Bevy of Boring Blondes school of theatre. If I wasn't clear, I'll take a pass.
I've seen Kelli, Betsy, and Erin give some phenomenal performances. They're really not bland actresses at all, especially Kelli, who I've never seen give a bland or boring performance.
If you want to talk about bland actresses, look to the brunettes. The bland brunettes include the likes of Sierra Boggess, Laura Osnes, and Samantha Barks.

All of this.
I will buy a ticket regardless (not really a hardship with Hiptix) but I'm hoping for casting news soon. And that maybe Will Chase has booked a TV show so he won't be available. Talk about boring blondes.
I feel like they would have announced Will Chase already if he was still attached?
There's really not many guys out there who have the voice AND the comedic chops to play Fred, especially since Brian Stokes Mitchell is still in our memories. Andy Karl would have been amazing. Marc Kudisch is probably too old. Christopher Sieber? Norm Lewis? Christopher Jackson? Brian d'Arcy James? Brandon Victor Dixon?

You are right, it's all subjective, and most Broadway producers agree with you. I've just ever found them very interesting. But I did have a nice nap in KING AND I, and SIDESHOW. As for Laura, I liked her in a not-very-good musical, BONNIE AND CLYDE. And I've always thought of Sierra as a red-head, not a brunette, although I didn't see her Christine in PHANTOM, I thought she was fine in LITTLE MERMAID which I didn't care for either, but went to see some friends who were in the supporting cast. I haven't seen Samantha in anything. I'm interested what she will do in PRETTY WOMEN although I had intended to take a pass on that show. Didn't like the movie. But actually, I don't go to the musicals much on Broadway unless there is something unique or I know someone in the cast. Been disappointed too many times. So there you are: my opinion.

I'd also throw in Christian Borle and Max von Essen.

Boring musical theatre brunettes come into New York everyday by the busload.
Hiptix are now available for the show via presale! (In addition to Roundabout's Bernhardt/Hamlet, Apologia, and Usual Girls. Waiting patiently for True West.)
All of the seats are in the rear mezzanine but I grabbed one for the first weekend of previews just in case they go fast in the coming months.

I got the email and immediately texted two friends, one to see KMK (we saw it together on a school trip in 99 and are both excited to get to see it again) and one for Apologia (we both love Stockard Channing, I've seen her before but this friend hasn't) and bought tickets right away. I haven't bought HipTix in forever but I can imagine both of these selling out of the cheap seats relatively fast.
I hope I like this production, Kiss Me Kate is one of my favorite shows, though I'm definitely looking at it through nostalgia colored glasses, but it's so fun.

There was an email sent out to I think the Hiptix email list that had a code and a link to access Hiptix for those select four shows. I don't have access to my email on this device otherwise I would find it!
Anyone happen to know what time tickets will be released on Monday? I’m traveling to a different country and my flight leaves in the afternoon, would love to buy a ticket before I leave

Just checked Roundabout's Twitter and they go on sale at 10 a.m. on Monday!

Just looked on broadway.com and noticed how you request tickets and they give you seats for the best available within that section, anyone know if we’ll be able to choose our own seats?

I wouldn't use Broadway.com as the standard to judge anything. Their ticketing service is a total rip-off. Roundabout always has a "let me pick my own seats" option.
