Does anyone else think that he could be announced to be playing Higgins in My Fair Lady??
I think he's so sexy. And obviously gay.

I'm more down for that then him as host actually. And I'm pretty down for him as host. Don't know why I didn't think of him as Higgins before...He'd SLAY it.

Was there just nobody else available? You just know he'll trot out that tired old Pacino impression again...
Count me in as liking this decision. And I would be totally on board for him to play Higgins!!!
Yas queen
More than anything, he's an A-lister who can and will encourage his A-list friends to show up and present.
We need theatre people to present, not A list celebrities.
Does having non-theater presenters matter? Like, if I really loved Katy Perry and she was presenting a TONY award, would I tune in just to watch her? Actually asking. Because I agree, if it doesn't impact sponsorship or viewership, only theater people should present the award.
Also, being back sound design cos The Great Comet really should get it.

Great choice. Hope he announced a NY role soon. Lol at people saying he's not a theatre person.

He's also an A lister who really loves theatre. He did a hell of a lot for the Old Vic.

So? Some A-List celebrities are theatre people too.
As someone who has a background in PR and large event production, commercials that say, "With appearances by Katy Perry, Jake Gyllenhaal, Oprah, Idris Elba, Kristen Wiig and more!" Sell better than "....by Andy Karl, Jessie Mueller, Christian Borle and more!"
Sadly it's just the name of the game.
Will he be hosting as Johnny Carson?
He will be fine.
He is "theatre people" Butter Broadway, with 6 broadway credits not to mention a 10+ yr stint as artistic director of the Old Vic in London.

Well, I guess the idea of being surrounded by a bunch of musical theatre twinks appealed to him.
I wouldn't be surprised if he announced he was playing Higgins
He's on Fallon Tonight, hopefully we hear more about it.

Will he be doing it as a live from the Rambles in Central Park at 4:00 a.m. now that he doesn't have the Geraldine Mary Harmsworth Park in Lambeth London to troll? Or, will he be doing it from the closet on stage? He will be a happy camper with all the chorus boys coming and going.

I didn't question that. I said if having non-theater people present an award does not affect viewership, it shouldn't be done. I don't mind A-list celebrities who do theater present awards. If you do not contribute or participate, and award from you means very little and is a little disrespectful to the winners.

Did you have to ? and to the others making 'gay' innuendos--totally unfunny and unnecessary.
Of course that's coming from a bitter old queen with a wicked sense of humour.
I think he will be non-swishy and an excellent hostess.
