Did you have to ? and to the others making 'gay' innuendos--totally unfunny and unnecessary.
Of course that's coming from a bitter old queen with a wicked sense of humour.
I think he will be non-swishy and an excellent hostess.
The gay jokes being thrown are pretty appalling.
I like Kevin Spacey. He's a great actor. He doesn't scream "AWARD SHOW HOST!!!!!" to me, but I have no doubt that he'll be fine in the spot.

GUYS!!!!!!...what's with all the homo dissing going on here? Come on guys it's 2017. Kevin Spacey is a talented gay man and these comments make all of you look so petty and small. Let's all get a grip and grow up.
When I was little, it was nasty straight people who use to label people's sexuality as a joke against them. Now it's nasty gay people doing it, too. How ironic.

The show opens as James Corden is driving to his hosting gig at the Tony Awards, and he stops and picks up Kevin Spacey (a la Carpool Karaoke). But Spacey, in character as Frank Underwood from House of Cards, instead calls I.C.E. to take Corden away because of "questions about his immigration status", and then, with a smirk on his face, strolls into Radio City Music Hall to host in his place.
Or maybe just singing and dancing would be a little less offensive....
Oh please. Spacey famously refuses to come out despite having a well-known history of hitting on and sleeping with younger men. I'm not dissing him because he's gay, but I'm making fun of him because celebrities in the glass closet is entirely tiresome in 2017.
What a great idea! Let's use this news as an opportunity to scrutinize the sexuality of an actor most of you didn't really care about a couple of hours ago! How wonderful!

He would be a wonderful wizard

Not if you ask him or his publicist.
I agree with wonderfulwizard, I find it distasteful in 2017 that the Tony Awards of all shows has a notoriously, almost offensively closeted host.
Maybe he'll use the Tonys as an outlet to come out of the closet already!!
This is Barry Manilow all over again. If he does come out (time and medium of which is his choice), y'all will be "what else is new lol".
What is tiresome is gay men and women who've been out of the closet for a while but have no memory of what it was like to be in it; and hiding behind anonymous profiles on a chat board dissing an accomplished talented man for wanting to keep his private life private. I don't know what Spacey's deal is, but none of us here have rights to call him out on his closet-status of all things. Sean Hayes was harassed non-stop for choosing to not come out officially and it is downright shameful and even scary how hateful our community can be.
PS - I'm DOWN for that James Corden bit on immigration, but I think Corden's otherwise occupied - his Late Late Show is in London that week.

Well-known?? What is your source? You seem bitter.
Were you not able to get him off so he never called back?
How he chooses to live his life is his own damn business. You don't have to like it, but it's easy to taunt and know better from the cheap seats, isn't it?
I think Kevin is pretty charming and has a good sense of humor, plus he can sing! I don't know if he is going to do an opening number, but he has a good jazz sensibility. I think he has the potential to be fun!

Tell that to all the openly gay actors, directors, choreographers, playwrights, designers and producers who will be in the audience with their boyfriends and husbands while A-List Celebrity Kevin Spacey gets to host their awards show and wave to his "girlfriend" in the audience again. This isn't the 1990s. Anyone of his stature who is still using the "private life private" excuse is perpetuating the problem.
GreasedLightning- ask Anthony Rapp how he feels about Kevin Spacey. Google that sh*t.

He's also quick-witted. The importance of having a host who can think on his feet was hammered home at the Oscars. Jimmy Kimmel's Steve Harvey quip was just what the doctor ordered for that awkward moment.
In an age when we're faced with the very real possibility of having rights taken away from us, I have no sympathy with anyone who says "I have the right to remain in the closet." Nor do I have sympathy for those who defend them.
Visibility and transparency can save lives; hiding, however, is never a positive.

I don't really care about his personal life, so I'll pass. He's a great choice as a host and I'm a fan of his work as an actor. I'll leave it at that and you all should too.

What? Is this a joke? Coming out of the closet is one of the most personal decisions you can ever make. Nobody owes anybody else their decision to come out.

You'll find that there are a lot of great minds who disagree with you on that; but political awareness comes to everyone at a different time.

This is the most absurd thing I've read all day.

Being gay is no more than having this sexual orientation. It's appalling that people have been associating it with certain kinds of lifestyles, whereas in fact homosexuality itself does not account for or is not the excuse of personal choices.
Also, for those fuming over his not coming out, I bet you really want to let everyone know your SSN and be proud of doing it.
"This is the most absurd thing I've read all day."
Good. Tell it to the teens who kill themselves because they think being gay is something shameful to hide. More and more role models are living their lives openly, because they're aware of the responsibility they have to their community.

Okay, we're treading a fine line here. Yes, we should (and I would say, do) applaud those in the public eye who come out and create visibility. That's a given.
However, to say that closeted celebrities have a responsibility or an obligation or a moral accountability to come out is totally absurd. They have personal lives, and you don't know what demons they're facing. If Kevin Spacey came out, would gay teen suicides decline? I'm seriously doubtful.
Let people make their own decisions.
