"I have also met him in person, and I find him to be quite funny actually. Arrogant and often misinformed, but still funny."

Sorry, I hate to be like this but she has just done Legally Blonde right? If not then I sure didn't remember her. I'm sure there are other, more deserving performers that could have recived that award.
"Aren't caricatures supposed to exaggerate your features, not soften them?" why yes, yeah they are but that obviously isn't the case here, I think they tryed to make her look better.
it seems "caricature" has become a relative term, i mean hell if you're gonna be nice (which i'm fine with) at least make it look like a cartoon
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
They were waaay too nice, IMO. It's like when your friend asks you to draw a portrait of them and you intentionally flub things so they won't get offended (as an artist myself, I do have experience with that particular situation).
But you're right, if they had to be that nice, they could have at least made it look more cartoonish.
Jimmy, what are you doing here in the middle of the night? It's almost 9 PM!
Let's be honest, if someone from Sardis came up to you on the streets and you hadn't been in a single Broadway show and told you they wanted your caricature on the walls, wouldn't you jump at the opportunity? I'm sure Laura Bell was asked and obviously said yes...who wouldn't? So, good for her.

Yeah, she's only just completed a year on Broadway in a role that she originated and was Tony-nominated for. After doing Wicked, Hairspray, being OCC and Drama Desk nominated for her performance in Ruthless as a kid, yadda yadda.
It's not an "award," it's a Sardi's Charicature- I thought the only qualification was that if the owner of Sardi's wants you to have one then you get one.
I agree with that SporkGoddess, although I wasnt aware she had been in other things before because honestly I have no interest in her and I don't think she is that amazing of a performer.
True enough, but neither one of them has made a substantial contribution to the American theatre, which is what the qualifications for the wall used to be.
It's completely normal for the lead of a Broadway show to be approached for something like this. I don't think JLY was in *any* other Broadway shows when he got his, so it's a matter of the shows publicist petitioning for it to happen. It's not a hard sell. Good for her, she's never looked more attractive.
I think the negative comments are from people who are simply bemoaning the fact that getting a portrait at Sardi's is no longer as big an honor as it used to be. No one is knocking Laura Bell, or saying she isn't a legit actress, just that it used to be that she would have to have had a longer career before this happened.
But I also agree she sure as hell is more deserving than some of the other recent additions.

With Clay Aiken in Spamalot, all of Broadway is singing a collective "There! Right! There!" -Me-
