I was at a meeting out here in Los Angeles and I tried to explain this thread to everyone in the room (many, interestingly enough had seen the show live when they were in New York) and nobody could quite get it. I hope everyone's ears were burning. Some of the conversation included:
"They know the names of all the understudies and all the roles everyone plays."
"Seriously? The UNDERSTUDIES?"
I suddenly realized all these film people only understand day players. Nobody plays two roles in a movie.
I was trying to explain "tracks" but finally said it was like when the clarinet player also play the sax (figures everyone knows jazz).
This is one of the most interesting threads I have ever read here (and I only visit occasionally).
And thanks, allofmylife, that was really sweet. I don't think I appreciated the understudies so much until I started reading this thread. Plus, you trying to describe it to Hollywood people just cracked me up...(I used to live in L.A.), I could totally see how they wouldn't get it.
allofmylife- my *roommate* (who, btw, thinks I've seen Blonde "what, three or four times now?") can't wrap her head around talk of and knowledge of understudies and such, I love the idea of you trying to explain to a room full of people, lol.
so- official announcement and such: It was announced today that Nicolette Hart (Rent) and Kate Rockwell (NBC's "Grease: You're The One That I Want) will join the cast of Legally Blonde THE MUSICAL in May. Ms. Hart will take over the role of Brooke Wyndham on Wednesday, May 7, 2008 and Ms. Rockwell will perform the role of Margot starting Wednesday, May 14, 2008. Hart and Rockwell Join 'Legally Blonde' Cast
congratulations and good luck to both of them. i did see nicolette in thr wedding singer and i loved her. she is so sweet at the stagedoor. kate rockwell was one of my favorite sandys but i knew she would do better. she did well as christine in the phantom of the reviews i read.
Any news on whether a college ID without a date, accompanied with a roster that proves that one is still in college, will work? I need to see Ms. Curry as Brooke.
So take this as gossip for now, I can't find confirmation anywhere else yet, but according to someone on another forum the "search for the next Elle" reality show starts Monday June 2nd @ 10pm on mtv.
It was announced today that original Broadway cast member Becky Gulsvig will play Elle Woods in the First National Tour of the "mega- hit" (Wall Street Journal) Legally Blonde THE MUSICAL. The tour will kick off in Rhode Island at The Providence Performing Arts Center, PPAC on September 23, 2008. Additional casting will be announced shortly.
(yes, I have accepted and moved on from the fact that she *should* be playing Elle after LBB leaves. )
Congrats to Becky!!!!!! I saw her very first performance as Elle and thought she was leagues better than LBB. She really should be replacing her on Broadway but I guess this is the next best thing!
Good for her! Although, I was still hoping (I know this is like the millionth time its been mentioned) that whoever wins the MTV thing would be on the national tour and not on Broadway. (Which is basically what you just said, so ignore me.)
^ which reminds me of a random question that I had: so whoever replaces Kitty would go in on her ensemble track, and would be a new Brooke u/s. Does anyone know, would whoever replaces her also become the new Dance Captain too? How does that sort of thing get decided, that replacement happen?
Well Rusty Mowery would still be there as Dance Captain, and I would think one of the ensemble members who have been there would become the new co-Dance Captain for the show. April Berry or Beth Curry would be my choices. Michelle's replacement might become an Assistant Dance Captain to begin learning the responsibilities, but probably would not be named a Dance Captain yet. So I take it the cast has mostly been in the last few days, no substitutions? (Outside of Beth as Brooke and Casey Leigh as Beth's track?)
Dean: Can I tell you something?
Lorraine: That depends on what it is.
Dean: I think you're really really pretty.
Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.
There is now what looks like an official photo of Becky on her website. When you get to her homepage there's a little blurb about her and the national tour, click on it and it's in the background.
That's pretty awesome, because I know Kitty wasn't originally a Serena u/s, but Kitty!Serena is my favorite out of all the roles I've seen her u/s for.
