Get better soon Beth! holy sh*t is right. As for Serena understudies, I think the best one is Tiffany Engen. She's the only one who makes me forget Leslie's.
get well to beth on her recovery!!! we will miss her!!!! from broadwayunderstudies.com
-- 05.04.08: Michelle Kittrell will be playing the role of Serena for both shows on Saturday, May 24th and the role of Pilar Wednesday, May 28th through Sunday, June 1st in LEGALLY BLONDE.
michelle going out with bang in the show, best of luck to her in whatever she is doing next.
It's great that Michelle is getting to do her final show as a principle! But do you think she'd rather be going on as Pilar her final show or in her ensemble track?
i think she is happy either way. it will be a sweet goodbye to her. i cant wait to read/hear what lbb does on michelles last performance, since they have done hairspray together.
I was wondering where this thread went, as it seemed to have disappeared for a week. I admit to being obsessed with understudies and substitutions, always like to know who exactly is in what show at what time, castigate me for it ever-judging BWW members.
Dean: Can I tell you something?
Lorraine: That depends on what it is.
Dean: I think you're really really pretty.
Lorraine: (after a pause) Ok, you can tell me that.
saw legally blonde tonight (friday may 16). there were several understudies and new principals. in brief...
kate rockwell (margot) - fantastic. her singing was beautiful, her acting was adorable...loads better than haven, IMO.
gaelen gilliland (on as paulette) - what a voice! who knew?!
matthew risch (on as kyle/dewey) - HYSTERICAL...trying to decide if i like him better than andy karl!
nicolette hart (brooke) - her acting didn't seem as forced and over the top as nikki's. her singing was great, too. she'll definitely grow into the role soon.
**on a side note, i was sitting two rows behind miley cyrus at tonight's show**
I saw the May 17th saturday evening show and saw several understudies which I was so excited about! Becky was on as Elle, Bryce on as Emmett, Amber on as Paulette, Jason Gillman as Kyle/Dewey, Dani Spieler as Store Manager/Judge, Tiffany Engen on in Becky's track, Rod Harrelson in Jason's track, and Casey Leigh Thompson on in Beth Curry's track! I loved Becky, I've seen her before and she is my favorite Elle! Amber was fantastic as Paulette! She really surprised me. Bryce seemed to be holding back as Emmett but a couple times he really let go and I enjoyed him!
Good God, how times have changed. That understudy list is just about every principal in LEGALLY BLONDE! Well, I guess you can get away with that when there are no "names" per se carrying the show. It was very interesting reading Julie Andrews' autobiography. In it, she talks about while Rex Harrison was out on vacation, there was no way she'd be allowed to be gone, and also how the "power" shifted -- instead of the show being shared by she and Harrison, it then fell squarely on her shoulders, and she suffered for it, i.e. vocal problems. (those were the days pre-body mikes shoved down your throat...)
More understudy in costume pics- Michelle as Brooke, and Serena
"Grease," the fourth revival of the season, is the worst show in the history of theater and represents an unparalleled assault on Western civilization and its values. - Michael Reidel
Well, yeah, it is shocking. But Christian Borle had Pamela's First Musical last night, which has been in the works for a while, and I believe Orfeh and Andy are on vacation, also pre-planned. And Laura misses like once a week now, doesn't she?
