I think the no chemistry is more on her soldiers...she is nothing but wooden.
I will miss Laura.
I rather like Borle giving us a Max that is less likable. Interesting choice.

Oooooh, they added Something Good. Not from the original show.

Time for the most cloying, saccharine mistake of a song in this show.

I really think the lack of chemistry between Carrie and Stephen is more on Stephen's end from my point of view. Plus they are totally different styles of performers. She's playing earnest and he's playing more stylized. It's tough.
But this is a huge undertaking for even a polished broadway performer so I am not apt to be too critical. They have a lot of guts for even trying this...
Oh, I didn't realize they were replacing An Ordinary Couple.

I'm sad they replaced 'An Ordinary Couple' with 'Something Good'. It would've been nice to have an intact version of the original stage production.

Damn....she can act when she sings.....just not when she talks. So frustrating, because it's "there"....just not tapped.

EXACTLY how I feel. I am pleasantly surprised how well she can emote and act when she sings.

How do you solve a problem like Maria? Get her married off to a rich man. Oh the 1950s!

Carrie needs training. She has talent. She has instincts. She doesn't know how to use her voice when she speaks. That can be learned, just like she learned to sing. You "play the notes" when you speak, just like you do when you sing.
It can be taught. If she wants to learn, she could do it. She's not bad (to me), she's just not trained.

The "Ordinary Couple" dialogue does not work with "Something Good."

They must have the temperature on the set turned down to minus 50. You don't see anyone sweating. But maybe that's why some of the scenes are so dark. They didn't want the hot lights wilting the actors?

I don't think it's one or the other in terms of chemistry. They do screen tests to see if two people have "it" on screen. They just seem to lack that chemistry that's so important. I think that's crucial for a love story, the viewer is supposed to feel it.
Christopher Plummer and Julie Andrew's chemistry burned up the screen. I got excited every time they were in a scene together.

Love the production. Love Audra, Christian, Laura. Neutral about Stephen. I'm personally finding Carrie just God-awful, and I was genuinely thinking I was going to like her! I just can't deal with her belting out these songs - she doesn't know when head voice is appropriate. Her acting is like a seventh grader reading a script for the first time. She has absolutely zero chemistry with the Captain, and I think this just might be the first time I've been rooting for Elsa in the love triangle. I'm gonna miss Laura.
They should have just televised the Laura Osnes version.

Why jettison "An Ordinary Couple"? Never liked "Something Good."
Laura makes a very sympathetic Elsa. First time I've rooted for Elsa to win the captain.

Something about the boy playing Kurt irks me off.

I thought "Something Good" sounded lovely and the nuns sounded wonderful. Laura was just perfect in every scene she was in.
