I can't believe we missed the first two minutes of the entr'acte because of Alan Alda gabbing backstage!
This production is timeless, and is truly amongst my all time favorite moments in any theater!
That orchestra!
Never thought I would say this, but Alan Alda, please STFU!
Samonsky reminds me of the guy on the tour, Anderson Davis. he was just as "stiff" in his book scenes. Both of their entrances remind me of the UPS man entrance in "Legally Blonde". Davis' moreso.
For some reason, this production lacks the energy that the Touring Company has. That's just my opinion.
I love the refernces to Philly and Ardmore. I grew up near Ardmore and was one of very few that laughed at the lines.
Loving O'Hara. Carman Cusak was good but O'Hara's performance is a bit more restrained. Less animated. So far I have to say I liked David Pittsinger better than Szot. Just my random thoughts.
Honestly, I only have one regret with this show...I never got to see Taylor Frey as Cable. I hear his Cable had a lot more depth and compassion.

Ugh. My PBS station turned off the broadcast at the second act to show a documentary on Hurricane Katrina. I'm highly ticked.
I don't think this production is lacking energy: the TV simply can't capture everything - the sights and sounds - that goes on onstage. A lot is lost in a broadcast compared to seeing it live at The Vivian Beaumont.

I live not far from Princeton and my dad was from Bryn Mawr
jsg, that is just my opinion. I just saw it last month so it is pretty fresh in my mind and for me, it lacks a bit of energy compared to what I saw last month.
I can't believe I missed this on stage. It is simply beautiful.
Samonsky reminds me of Andy Samberg somehow. Odd.
Is it just me or do Kelli's vocals seem off at times?
Kelli's voice has always been like that in SP. She's not a belter like Laura Osnes, so some parts of Kelli's voice are shaky in HB, IGWTMROMH and AWG. (But she freakin' kicked ass at that Lerner & Loewe concert she did with Paulo Szot at Carnegie Hall where she let her soprano loose big time! High notes galore!)
Is it wrong that I have a private musical fantasy world where Cable and Liat get married and live next door to Tony and Maria?
Do Tam, Chris and Kim live next door too? :o)

I dream that Nellie throws Emile over for Luther.

That was just fantastic.

Do I need to bump the abbreviations thread? Spell it out.

nah, she's too bland for him. But I bet he was the best dad ever when he had kids.

Maybe they all live in an apartment complex.
Uh, they pulled the camera back so you couldn't see Luther listening to Emile and Cable

If he made it home. That's what always struck me about the ending. We learned to care about Billis and he's walking off to war and we have no closure. I wept when they matched off singing Honey Bun

O'Hara sounds great to me, but I'm surprised at how much she's crooning/ not singing full out.

I saw this when it opened in 2008, and it is just as amazing. What a fantastic production.
Also from Ardmore here - when I saw the show and they talked about it, I seriously exclaimed 'oh my god!' and all the people around me were like, what the heck are you responding to? Now watching tonight, all my relatives have called freaking out. So funny. I wonder where the R&H connection to Ardmore came from.
I never read the book but maybe the Ardmore/Philly connection is from there
Ok, Szot just won me over! it is intermission here in Denver.
Didn't Hammerstein live in Pennsylvania.
And orange, thank you for addressing the abbreviations! :)
