I'm distracted by Kelli O'Hara's bright red fingernails... and Samonsky's Spock hair.

Well I have to say that I enjoyed it. The "tone" of the show was different than what I saw but it was good. I got more into it about an hour and a 1/2 in.

That was a really lovely broadcast. I saw the show a while back and wasn't particularly enthused, but after watching that I am totally going to try student rush for tomorrow, I'm not sure why I wasn't a huge fan the first time haha.

I just started watching at midnight. The overture had me in tears. I actually saw the production with Osnes, but I am so upset I didn't get to see it with O'Hara...she is a gem. Her commitment to the role is so incredible and she is just so classic and timeless. I had goosebumps and teared-up again during Some Enchanted Evening. The SeaBees just made their entrance! I totally agree that Danny and Loretta would have won TONYs had they not been up in the same year as Gypsy...maybe Kelli too.

to record from sat receiver to vcr is as follows::just plug the left and right audio cables coming from your sat receiver [sat receivers whether they have 1 set of 3 jacks or 2 sets of three, ONLY have output jacks composed of left-right audio plus single video,so you CAN'T go wrong] into the left and right audio INPUT jacks on the back of the vcr[make sure you plug into INPUT not output on vcr] Do the same with single video cable coming from the sat receiver to the VIDEO IN jack on back of vcr --Put VCR into LINE 1 input[should be a button on your remote which switches vcr input from channel 3 to LINE 1-- Put the vcr into LINE 1 - wait for show to start and press record -Make sure tape is new -or if a used tape make sure the 2 punch out holes on vcr tape have been covered so the machine will go into record mode! Enjoy South Pacific!

I wholeheartedly agree with you about Samonsky. He doesn't even come across as "saxxy" because his conceited ego is such a complete and utter turn off.
Also, Loretta is a treasure and I would love to see her find another home on Broadway if that is possible.

Samonsky's voice is indeed glorious- really, the only glorious thing about his performance. His acting is bad... almost a parody of dramatic acting.
But this is a stunning production- I doubt we'll see a revival of this quality for a long time.

This is random but it came into my head tonight that Andrew Samonsky looks a lot like a young Robert Westenberg. The tone of Samonsky's voice over the radio transmission with Emile was how he should have said all his lines: natural and unaffected. Could hardly believe it was the same actor.

A lot of his line readings reminded me of Westenberg in Into the Woods.

I liked Kelli better tonight than I did when I saw her live, but I still don't understand why people were flipping out over her. She always comes across a little bland to me.

Kelli's acting is extremely natural and nuanced. I think she would have easily won the Tony in a different year.

YES! That's who he reminded me of! Westenberg as the Prince.

I never thought I could love a voice more than Kristin Chenoweth's but Kelli O'Hara may be passing her in my book. I just love that legit vocal quality and find it so refreshing in a world of pop, belting, riffing, and screaming on Broadway.

Oh, Kelli O'Hara definitely has one of the most beautiful voices on Broadway.

Always one of my favorite scores and this production is so excellent I don't have words. I found myself weeping at the sheer beauty of it. Loved every minute of it.
