Although LuPone had no reason to apologize, I hope this ends all the mishigas.

Love this line from Playbill lol:

"LuPone has never walked back any of her comments about any entity or person that she dislikes—whether it was Andrew Lloyd WebberActors' Equity Association, or President Trump. So this apology does mark a first in LuPone's career."

"You can't overrate Bernadette Peters. She is such a genius. There's a moment in "Too Many Mornings" and Bernadette doing 'I wore green the last time' - It's a voice that is just already given up - it is so sorrowful. Tragic. You can see from that moment the show is going to be headed into such dark territory and it hinges on this tiny throwaway moment of the voice." - Ben Brantley (2022) "Bernadette's whole, stunning performance [as Rose in Gypsy] galvanized the actors capable of letting loose with her. Bernadette's Rose did take its rightful place, but too late, and unseen by too many who should have seen it" Arthur Laurents (2009) "Sondheim's own favorite star performances? [Bernadette] Peters in ''Sunday in the Park,'' Lansbury in ''Sweeney Todd'' and ''obviously, Ethel was thrilling in 'Gypsy.'' Nytimes, 2000

It's just so, so ugly to see what is actually racialised language in this thread ("Why should she apologise to a WHITE woman") - especially whenPatti has NEVER once used racialised language in her life despite the claim by these 500 nobodies. I can really hear the hatred and prejudice in the posts trying to inflame this race war. Audra is better than this. Patti is better than this. I don't know if Kecia is better than this given she did essentially start this race war unfairly. This is chaos.

"

Chaos is your ability to blame a “race war” on a Black woman who merely spoke up for herself and her company. The Roommateis not the only play that’s shared a wall with HK. But it seems the only show to have a noise complaint - to our knowledge.

Patti gets to complain to the Shuberts, call Kecia a bitch and tell Audra “she should know better.” But Kecia speaking on social media is the beginning of the race war? This is theinstitutionalized white privilege people are complaining about, the mere idea that Patti isn’t at fault. Only if Kecia had stayed in her place as a woman of lower status and been quiet, but Patti doesn’t have to. That system of thought is unspoken, but always expected and people are calling the BS out - rightfully so.

Gaslighting. The go to white behavior on this thread.

How is it gaslighting when you literally won’t stop posting the same word salad over and over? It’s literally documented here. It’s a fact. Stop throwing around words like gaslighting when you clearly don’t even understand what it means.

*waits for some offensive response using wild chitlin circuit / slavery referencesin some lame attempt to prove a futile point*
"

I know what gaslighting is. It’s what many of you in this thread have tried to do for past 48 hours. You discredit racism. You make it Kecias problem to fix this. You blame Audra. You say things like Kecia started this. Kecia didn’t go to the Shuberts. Patti did. Kecia didn’t call Patti a bitch in the New Yorker. Patti did.If Kecia is a bitch, Patti is a racist.

See how you brought up slavery? That’s what tragic white people do.
"

Back to my question about how you magically know everyone’s race.

I am not white.

See how you make everything about racism and speak in platitudes that don’t mean anything? That’s what tragic Black people do.

You can uphold whiteness and be a POC, babe. You’re proof. I have a great therapist who’s taught me not to take BS from the likes of you. Sooo….

I wonder why Patti apologized if she didn’t anything  wrong…. Maybe it’s bc she knew her already drying up theater career would be no more.

She did what was right. If she is the woman, whom so many respect and revere this was the ONLY possible start to the solution. She will comply with every ask because unlike people here, she seems in this writing succinct and genuine, and fully understands the impact of her words and actions.

For those who are astrology girlies or find this kind of thing interesting from an esoteric perspective, Saturn (karma, discipline, and life lessons) just moved into Aries for the next 3 years. In Patti's birth chart, she has Mars (action), North Node (Life's destiny and purpose), and Lilith (dark feminine energy) all in the sign of Aries. Saturn sat on these placements in her chart Sunday, when the article dropped. The transits suggested she would have to consider her legacy, how she wants to be remembered, possibly move differently than she ever has, and also hold on to her core values and beliefs unapologetically. Her core values she states at the end of the note. I find it fascinating she took the impact of Saturn so fast, and committed to growth. That's real soul evolution in under week. lol, most of us it takes a good while longer. It's gonna be hard work as she commits to the anti-bias/racism training but damn if it isn't impressive as a first step and SHOULD set a standard for others.

To be clear I think she is apologising for being an asshole, not apologising for being (unfairly accused of being) a 'racist'. It can be true that she is an asshole and should apologise while also being true that we just went through some of the craziest stuff we have ever seen here and we have seen A LOT OF crazy stuff over the years. Remember the letter was demanding she be cancelled (sorry 'care' not 'cancelled' or however they tried to spin it), removed from the Tony awards, and demanding that we no longer tolerate 'violence'.

What a relief.

To those that believe in the theatre, the possibility of enlightening and enriching each other, of lifting each other up, of restorative justice, and those who found it sad to watch a talented performer choose to be remembered for being cruel. I'm believe all those things and so I, for one, am pleased we're moving in the right direction.

Patti Lupone: I’m not signing a Hell’s Kitchen; they’re too loud. Is Patti's use of the word "they" part of the whole problem? Instead would there have been less controversy if instead she said, "I'm not signing a Hell's Kitchen; that show is too loud". Saying "they" under a circumstance like this might imply a microagressive prejudice that all black people are too loud.
