You don't have to be so open about your racism, you'll find more receptive audience on X, trumpie."
Yep it’s racist to identify the writer whose flawed ideology has influenced the other posters world view - he made bank pushing his psiedo intellectual buzz word filled stupidity and you people now think a sound complaint is racist , I don’t vote and I don’t care but I read and stuff and CRT is reverse racism with fancy SAT words , it’s a cancerous revenge ideology and 99% of humans reject it, Sorry your world view has devolved into calling all white peoples racist for any possible reason. I want harmony , you want revenge for past racism - CRT is against everything a genX peacenik Broadway fan stands for

A play that didn’t earn her any acclaim or awards. What a LEGEND! People only want to see Patti sing. She’s learned a lesson about her conduct and that’s all that matters. Broadway is as political as the White House. There was no way she was coming back from this unless she apologized - which is why she did.

But who would play Ensem8675309?"
It’s really funny when the racism turns into bullying. But what else would I expect from a board full of white minded people. I’ll find a Neo nazi to play you.

Back to normal meaning a board of people complacent in racial micro aggressions as long as it doesn’t tarnish the legacy of their Queen? Yes, honey. Carry on.

Folks against the norm in these spaces are called all kinda things. I’m sad bc I don’t align with your white morals?
Just ignore Ensemble1698whatever, y'all.
Performative activists only do what they do for attention. So don't provide it.

Patti has issued an apology- kudos to her- and now the thread should be officially ended- Patti took note of the reaction to her quotes- and did the right thing. Maybe she will stop being so temperamental in future interviews. I doubt this was actually racism- more like the people who Lupone criticized and dissed happened to be black. That is the way I read it. Lupone is a very opinionated, moody, bitchy person--she would do better to keep away from press. Of course, she is not going to change- but she just might understand that talking so freely about her gripes with fellow actors--and her bitchy summations of her peers performances and personalities--- to the press can have major negative consequences for her career. She is clearly not a kind and sweet person- and is immature and arrogant. Grow up, Patti- there is still time! There always is!!

It describes pretty much everyone who has opined on this fiasco anywhere, whose name isn't Audra McDonald. Especially on social media.
Publicly, LuPone is all over the place but professionally, based on numerous friends who’ve worked with her on projects - far past, recent past, and present - she’s adorable, generous, accessible, and a full on professional. THESE are things that keep her working and why creatives and producers choose her for projects. Her crazy public antics bring attention to her so there’s that added plus for them, but at work there is zero of this messiness.

Yeah, that's in line with what I've noticed in this whole thing- for all of the outrage, there's been a lack of actual allegations or even anecdotes of her doing anything worse than calling women "bitch" or being demanding or self-centered. As Lauren Bacall once sang, "welcome to the theatre!"
I think it would be reasonable for one to take issue with the fact that "bitch" seems to be her go-to insult for women who cross her and make an argument that there is internalized misogyny there. But there have been some- including that letter- that lump her in with people with noted records of staggering abuse and harassment of all sorts- physical, sexual, emotional. And there just doesn't seem to be any indication that is the case with LuPone. Being mean sometimes is not the same thing and, imo, simply lessens the weight of terms like "abuse," "violence," "harassment," etc.
Well nobody can lessen the harm abusers and people who do actual harm to others do, like theater folks it seems.
They have been eating their own. The whole episode puts a light on how artificial and full of themselves the “theater community” is. All of them.

So many sweeping generalizations made throughout this thread, frequently being used as a way to make one's personal opinion seem like it carries more weight or worse yet, is accepted universal truth.

Precisely. The bigoted minded folks who come on here and combat discussions around race do not comprehend that their active dismissal is as performative as they blame me to be.

They as in Patti? Patti had an opportunity to reply to Kecia months back but didn’t think it necessary. That’s on her.
Dear Ensem,
Your maniacal crusade to label people as racist infuriates me, so I spent some time in introspection. Investigating why something makes you angry is enlightening.
We’ve entered a social chapter where words like racist and pedophile are used insincerely and you’re guilty of it. Your passion may be real, but your goal is not what you’re hoping people will mistake it to be. It’s vile.
Caring about mistreatment based on race is inarguably a positive thing. Using the word ‘racist’ to wrest cheap power over others (see: The Crucible) is ethically corrupt – and it’s what you’re doing.
Patti wasn’t being racist – she crossed the line from salty to tacky and if she didn’t know it she wouldn’t have apologized. The accusation of sublimated racism made by Ms. Lewis is likely what set her off – and I don’t blame her for that. I blame people with your self-serving, wickedly casual misuse of that potentially fatal label. The fatality of it is what turns you on. You’re like a child with a gun. I hope there’s nothing micro about the aggression I mean to convey about what you’re spewing here. It’s poisonous to the very thing you hope to be seen as advocating for.
To evoke that other open letter, WE SEE YOU – but not as the crusader you fancy yourself to be - rather, as a selfish, petulant charlatan doing real harm to important progress.
