WhatsOnStage has confirmed that a movie adaption of Tim Minchin’s musical MATILDA is due to begin production this year.
The movie will be directed by Matthew Warchus and a casting call has gone out to find the titular character.
Who would you like to see in the movie adaption?

Exciting news! I just hope we'll get a mostly British cast... I've seen the musical on Broadway and in London, and was really bothered by the fake accents in the Bway production.

For trunchbull. I think I’d like to see Neil Patrick Harris give it a go.

He is tiny but he did play the sinister villian brilliantly in Netflix's Lemony Snicket adaptation.

Please no.
I wonder if they will keep Trunchbull played by a performer in drag for the film. Why do I feel like in this moment of female empowerment, casting a man in the part in the film might be met with some strange controversy?
I can't imagine Trunchbull not being played by a woman for this.
I'm fairly certain (I've been looking into the show) that amateurs are given the choice to cast the role male or female.

I'm not super excited about this one. I wasn't to impressed with the show when I saw it. Which was upsetting because I really liked the cast album.

I wonder if they'll change it si that she has her powers much earlier. The pacing of Matilda is honestly terrible and these fact that she doesn't have anything till 3/4s of the show is a major part of that.

I think somebody more along the lines of Colin Firth will be eyed for the lead. It's a predominantly British smaller budget production think Bridget Jones/Everybody's talking about Jamie type casting. I'd love to see Emily Blunt as Miss Honey she would be perfect for the role probably even equally as good for Mrs Wormwood. Dare I even suggest Kendrick as Honey?

I know it's not going to happen, but Haley Flaherty was absolutely perfect as Miss Honey. Both her singing and acting were sublime and I'd love to see her do the role again...
Wow! I thought it was dead! But yay!!
Bertie Carvel as Trunchbull or nah. I would love Hayley Atwell as Miss Honey if she can sing the role.
I’d love for them to bring back Bertie for this.
Emily Blunt as Miss Honey is beyond brilliant casting.
I’m so excited for this. Matilda is one of my all-time favorite scores and I thought the original production was stellar, with the exception of the absolute worst musical sound design I’ve ever heard. I’m glad Warchus will be directing the movie as well.
OMG YES! Emily Blunt!!!!!!!
I would also love NPH or James Corden as Mr. Woodworm. Colin Firth may be too old for him
I don't think they should waste any money on a talented actor for Miss Honey because in the musical, her part is so boring and she gets the worst songs. If they rewrote her songs maybe she'd be more compelling.

Me too. He was excellent.
Kad, I think the thing about this role is that it is played by a man. I think it would take something away from it if it were played by a woman. JMO
Probably too old, but maybe Helena Bonham Carter for Mrs. Woormwood. I can even see Margot Robbie having a bit of fun with it.

If they do cast a woman as Trunchbull, watch them cast Meryl. LOL

Whoopi would be fun in that role. She gonna whoop some a**
I really want Bertie to reprise Trunchbull. They’re honestly gonna have a lot of trouble finding a mainstream actor who can do the part justice, so he could be allowed to do it, especially if they have other big names attached. I’d love to see Michelle Williams as Miss Honey. And while I’m not a big fan, I think Sacha Baron Cohen could be a perfect fit for Mr. Wormwood. Anyone else wanna see Mara Wilson as the librarian?
