Thrilled about this. I know the production has had its criticism (to put it mildly) but this is perfect casting.

Makes me wonder why Lakis wasn’t Miranda on Broadway.

I don’t support what message the show has, especially since it’s offensive to my trans and non-binary friends, but if I do consider seeing it, it will be for Rob and his wife only!

I'm loving the recent trend of married couples taking their act on the road, first Block and Arcelus in ITW, and now this.
Rob McClure is the one who MADE this show rise above it's pedestrian construction and I'm happy for him, and for his family to have secured a rather lucrative gig amidst turmoil in the TV and movie industry.

Good for McClure and Lakis, I believe this is their third time touring together and for a Kevin McCollum produced show.

McClure and Lakis’s Philly home
Interestingly enough, Rob McClure and his wife don’t live in New York, they live in Philadelphia. And, Rob has, for a long time, travelled between Philadelphia and New York for a long time for eight shows a week. The article I liked was from The NY Times about their home in Philadelphia which was a nice little piece to read.
The article came out in 2020 and mentions their daughter who at that time was two. If I had to venture a guess it would be that both of them making the trek to nyc while having a young child at home wasn’t realistic feasible. But, touring is different since they are together and can bring their daughter with them.

Nice!
and I’m still fascinated on his 4 hour commute to work each day and how that worked.

I see that the "usual suspect" blowholes are already all over this on social media trying to get it shut down because it is not in perfect alignment with their personal "feelings" about the show and its messages.

Philly to NYC only takes 90 minutes so it's not unlike other people's commutes around the tri state area and their house is lovely. I hope this is a really successful tour.

This is so great for the tour! Without his performance not sure how this show fares.

To be clear, productions in NYC do provide him with housing so he doesn’t have to commute every day.

I could be conflating this with someone else, but I believe he once took an Amtrak train and it was delayed getting to NYC and he ended missing a days worth of performances of beetlejuice.

Is this true? Seems expensive.

Not necessarily. That would need to be negotiated on a show by show basis. For example there's no way that LITTLE SHOP was paying for a NYC apartment or hotel during his run in that show.

The man has been with the show since the reading in 2019 and came out as the show's sole Tony nominee. I think it's pretty clear that, at least stateside, he's an asset to the production.
It may not be the roles people want him in, but he's made clear he enjoys playing this role. The man's been working almost non-stop since the mid-aughts between AVENUE Q (B'way & Tour), CHAPLIN, HONEYMOON IN VEGAS, SOMETHING ROTTEN (B'way & Tour), NOISES OFF, BEETLEJUICE, LITTLE SHOP, and DOUBTFIRE...
I mean, nice work if you can get it...

So sad how people who are so outspoken about certain things are silent on others. I guess they're special and get to pick and choose what they're an ally for.

If there’s one thing Broadway fans are gonna do, it’s throw around words thinkin’ they’re saying something meaningful.

The NYT article says they live in East Passyunk, so add another 15-20 minutes to get to the train station, then another 15-20 minutes to get to the theatre. Assuming no delays, that still a 4+ hour commute. Meanwhile, I complain about my 15 minute walk to work.
Also wouldn’t even be feasible now since - to my extreme disappointment - Amtrak got rid of their 11pm train from NYC to Philly.

This production is touring Florida: sounds about right. I guess repressive laws don't apply to heterosexuals: Anyway, if there are any actual queer people in the cast, hopefully they won't need health care down in the Sunshine State:

I saw the show last night during the tour's stop in Rochester, NY. I had also seen it in NY shortly after Broadway reopened in 2021. They made a few minor changes for the tour, but things work well. I actually enjoyed the touring version more. Rob McClure's performance totally makes the show. Bravo!

Saw this one stop at Baltimore. Rob McClure is awesome. Makes the show! Impressions, voices, physical comedy ... he clearly has earned the green light to go off-script when it fits and he does. He is worth seeing for sure. Very good show.
