Mean girls understudies?

According to the playbill,it says "understudies never subatitute for the listed performers unless ~~blah blah"

and I saw Mean girls last saturday night show(2 days ago), Damian and Aaron were understudies.

...and Sunday was same!!

Is there any rule for casting? coz I'm a foreign visitor, not have much time to stay in NY, and hope to see Grey Henson Demian.

I also asked casting at the ticket box, and they said they update the casting board just 1h before performance...

Anyway, does anyone have new information about casting? (especially Grey Henson? - vacation or sth??)

Your best bet is to watch the actor’s social media. Sometimes, if it’s an important cast member Telecharge or Ticketmaster will have the info. Otherwise, unless they are above the title on the marquee they really don’t have to do anything beyond update the board, make an announcement right before the show or put a slip in the playbill.

Grey was just on vacation last week and will be back on Tuesday and Kyle seems to have just taken a few personal days and should also be back on Tuesday. As far as understudies in the show, they aren't allowed to say when they're on but have been giving vague mentions in their Instagram stories and Tweets indicating things like "Today would be a GROOL day to try the lottery" among other things. 

Following the cast on social media is definitely a good bet on finding out about people being in and out. I do know Barrett will be out the first week in September but beyond that I haven't heard of anyone else having a planned vacation.

Louderman & Henson have both taken a vacation recently so you should be fine. I would expect Park, Rockwell, and Henningsen to also be taking vacation weeks this fall.

An understudy going on at the show you're attending doesn't necessarily contradict what it says in the playbill about understudies going on.

I have noticed that the Ashley has been out at least one day a week these past few weeks.

I've seen the show 3 times, with Grey twice, and he was not my favorite Damian. Just because you're seeing an understudy doesn't mean you're seeing a worse performance or anything. In some cases, it's a better one!

I have tickets for 9/5! Who is first cover for Janis? Tee Boyich?

(Barrett is great, but I want to see Tee since I heard about her Broadway debut story)

Mean Girls has been doing a really good job of alternating understudies/swings, but Tee has been going on for Janis most of the time that Barrett is out. Gianni Yanelli has gone on for Janis a time or two, and Riza Takahashi is also an understudy but she has not gone on yet.

^Last I heard Tee was doing Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday with Gianna doing the latter half of the week.

I wonder why Riza hasn’t gone on as Janis yet. Every Janis understudy has gone on except for her.

^ With Tee not being an original cover for Janice, I'm assuming when that track got added onto her contract during Previews after her emergency performances, it probably shifted around the use of the Janice understudies.

that makes sense. I just hope she will get to go on. I would love to see an Asian Janis!

Exactly. Janis was added to her standby responsibilities after she went on in previews. It seems like she is always the first to go on for Cady, and usually Janis. So far the only role she hasn't go on for is the Adult Woman.

Ashley De La Rosa recently joined the cast as a standby for Regina and Gretchen. This past week, she debuted in both of her tracks. 

She was supposed to be a standby for Alana and Zoe on the Dear Evan Hansen tour but left that for Mean Girls! Thank God she did because she was an amazing Regina the other day.

Wow, good for her! Great move. I wonder why they never had an original Regina standby? Also, Tee has only been on as the Gretchen standby once or twice, right? Looks like even though she was the standby, she was never the default cover. (I'm sure there's a TON that goes on behind the scenes and contractually, but since we don't know those details, it's fun to piece together how this works!)

Random question for people who might have seen Ashley De La Rosa's debut as Regina... 

During "Apex Predator," one of the ensemble members steps forward to talk about Regina being the prettiest girl in school, and then says, "I'm like, 'okay, white people.'"

With De La Rosa being a woman of color, did this line get changed?

Nope they didn’t change this line! The only line they changed for her was when Gretchen says “her natural hair color isn’t blonde it’s dark blonde.” With De La Rosa they changed the line to “She says she’s part Cherokee but she’s really Dutch on her mother’s side.”

Tee said in her recent live video that Mean Girls likes to give every understudy a chance to go on and Tee also likes that idea. She said they also may need her to Standby for another character.

Gretchen also screamed “SHE’S DUTCH AS HELL!!” after that line. It was hilarious. And they actually did change the white people line for her. The ensemble member said “and I’m like yeah white people, welcome to the future”.

Karen? Why not give Ashley that track instead of having Tee cover so many characters (all of whom are VERY different)?

I still don't understand why Gretchen has so many covers (many ensemble understudies AND two standbys). Their cover system is so strange to me, honestly.

I think you're right! I totally forgot. Anyway, she was a wonderful Regina and I hope she gets bumped up to principal after Taylor leaves. 

I would love for Ashley to cover Cady she would be amazing in that part! I think they'll have Tee cover Karen as I don't see her as Regina.
