Give it never years and Hamilton will be the most overrated best musical
In our millions, in our billions, we are most powerful when we stand together. TW4C unwaveringly joins the worldwide masses, for we know our liberation is inseparably bound.

I also never could figure Lion King or Once for that matter. I don't believe, however, that Ave. Q was overrated at all. I believe that Wicked is way underrated by many.
I don't understand the praises given to Matilda. For me, in that season, Was the most overrated show. I'm glad the Kinky Boots took the Tony award. (Though it doesn't deserve best choreography - that should have been given to Matilda).
Im surprised that many put Once as overrated. I loved that show over Newsies but maybe there was this annoying little boy beside me when I watched Newsies that maybe ruined the experience for me. But with 'Once' I was so moved by the show. I don't know if it deserved winning the rest of the technical categories though.
i do agree with most people about Cats and The Phantom of the Opera. So overrated!!!!!
I really like TerrenceIsTheMann's split between worst winner and worst upsets because there are years where I think musicals won that aren't particularly great but still believe they were the best of the bunch. Most notably, I think The Lion King is a pretty spectacular production and have no problem with it laying claim to being a Best Musical winner. That disappoints me ONLY in that it beat Ragtime, which I consider superior.
Most Overrated for each decade:
60s - 1776
70's- Raisin (this is one I think deserved the win given the competition. still not good!)
80's-Cats
90's-Passion (I know, I know--I adore Sondheim, but I can't stand this show)
00's-Billy Elliot
10's-Memphis (my least favorite winner bar none) Worst Upsets:
60s- Sound of Music (and especially Fiorello) over Gypsy
70's-Gentlemen Of Verona beating Follies
80's-Phantom over ITW
90s - Fosse beating Parade (even more unfortunate to me than Lion King meeting Ragtime)
00's- Billy Elliot over N2N (confession: I also preferred Shrek to Billy)
10's- Memphis over literally anything else (I would have voted for Fela)
MEMPHIS ? (question mark because I only got through about ten minutes of it on netflix before deciding that it was a complete waste of time) and - I'm going to be killed for this but here goes - PASSION.
I'm also going to be killed for this: I much prefer TWO GENTLEMEN to FOLLIES (caveat: I'm comparing the shows, here, not the scores).
