I love the show "The Sound of Music", but couldn't we do without the Opera wanna-be Nun singing "Climb Every Mountain." That song makes me wanna jump off a mountain.
"It's the little things; the details, that distinguish the Barbra Streisands from the Rosalyn Kinds."~Gilmore Girls~
"There Once Was A Man" from The Pajama Game "Razzle Dazzle" from Chicago (yes, I know it encapsulates the show, but it's so damn repetitive, as is...) "Without You" from Rent.
I also can't stand "Ribbons Down My Back" and "It Only Takes a Moment" from Hello, Dolly! I love that show, but those 2 songs have become annoying over time.
And almost every song in "Bye Bye Birdie". I love the concept of the show (I think it's cute), but the lyrics to those songs are ridiculous.

My biggest pet peeve (and I will try to work on this): you say you hate something, but don't say WHY! Some of you do, but don't just put down a list...
because sometimes we just don't need to explain ourselves. If someone doesn't like a song it's usually because they either don't like the lyrics and/or music. Explaining why you don't like a show makes sense, but explaining why you don't like a song? There's only so much you could say. It sucks. Why? Because it just does. lol

Sunfish- I have hated the whole thing (Hairspray) since the day I saw it. I hated the songs when I saw the show and I haven't listened to them since. I find it humorous though that so many people hate the songs now and when the show first opened I was considered a devil for hating any part of Hairspray. The score is boring, predictable (with the exception of maybe 2 or 3 songs) as is the rest of the show. And MJW didn't help my opinion of the score. But I have to agree with you- some people on this board seem to be listing songs that have become annoying over time to them and not annoying songs.
Mimi- I do have to comment on your dislike of "Somewhere That's Green." I am definetely far from a LSOH or Ellen Green fanatic but I think "Somewhere That's Green" is a beautifully hopeful song sung by an abused woman. Take away Ellen Green's voice and just listen to the lyrics. I really think it is a wonderful song. Sorry I just saw that and had to comment.
Oh and Impossible Dream when not sung by Robert G. can be gorgeous. But that's just my opinion.
Sorry I thought of a couple more to add to my list: -Brush Up Your Shakespeare from Kiss Me Kate- can we say POINTLESS SONG. -I Enjoy Being A Girl from Flower Drum Song- sorry R&H but this song is just pathetic.
"something is wrong with u if dont like Any Dream Will Do. that is one of my favorite songs."
The whole idea of this thread is to show the different tastes of those who take the time to share their thoughts. There is nothing wrong with the posters here, with the exception perhaps of those who think that just because others don't like THEIR favorites, something must be wrong with those individuals.
As for me, I can't come up with a most annoying song at the moment...
1. "Kings of the World" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 2. "She's Yours" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 3. "You Must Marry" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 4. "Fools" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 5. "Born to Hate" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 6. "I Can't Do This" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 7. "All For Love" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 8. "The Marriage Proposal" from Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical 9. "Bustopher Jones" from CATS 10. "Prima Donna" from The Phantom of the Opera 11. "Gus the Theatre Cat" from CATS
Barcelona from Company! It's one of those songs that you can only listen to a couple of times, and those times would have to be very spread apart. The characters aren't even singing. They're talking in a singing manner.
Where ya goin'? Barcelona. Oh. Don't get up.
Do you have to? Yes I have to. Oh. Don't get up.
*I mean, come on!

This has been a very interesting thread to read. It just shows to go ya---this is a very personal and subjective topic. Some of the best Broadway songs ever written are listed here as "annoying". And to weigh in--easily the most annoying song ever written for a Broadway musical is FLOOZIES from THE GRASS HARP. "In secret rooms I tip-toe barefoot over naked bazooms". I rest my case.
"You got the same dress I got?" "Yes.""You got the same wig I got?" "Yes." THEN SHUT UP!
"Wait, I'm confused Juliette? I thought you liked Romeo and Juliette-the musical? You just listed so many songs from it that you find annoying."
I don't like "Romeo and Juliet ~ the Musical" (British). I like "Romeo et Juliette ~ de la Haine a l'Amour" (French). Same musical, it just that the orchastrations and the most of the lyrics are different (as are a lot of other things)
